What a mess!!!
Sure could use some budget cuts.
I’m sorry guys. I couldn’t make the meeting.
#2 Yup that’s it. just budget cuts and elect more democrats, who got us into this mess in the first place.
4 – Yup, budget cuts vs. a 21% tax increase and elect Jim Bean!
What a horrible mess our town is in. I would like to see the people responsible for this in handcuffs.
Pigs- All of them. Tom B is still on the council. Matt drives around in an seventy thousand dollar truck to his cushy crony job. Brian and Jen walk around town still playing the roll of citizens of the year. Robin got to keep her license and retire.
They all should be held accountable. There isn’t a person in this town that should be ok with any of this. Go ahead cheerleaders let’s hear how they’re all exemplary people who did good work for the town. You cannot keep defending the indefensible.
I will have my device ready to record the perp walk and the comments by some, “but they seemed to be such nice people.”
Thank you Mayor and Council for digging through Matt’s sack of sh-t he left us. First step, get rid of Colleen before she gets a rock solid contract from Brian (check)2. Stop dumping raw sewage into our ocean (check)3. Dig through the mess he left us and make it public (check)4. Cut costs where you feel we can still run a town and have a plan to make deeper cuts (check). 5. Make our beaches safe in summer(check) Have they checked every box, no, but not a bad start. Keep going Mark!
9 – Have an inside plan for Klein’s, Doughboys, and the municipal property – CHECK. Rig the BBP candidate meeting to not include a registered candidate, Jim Bean – CHECK. Pass all prior budgets (with “over spending”) put in front of him (Walsifer) while a councilman – CHECK. Protect supervisory employees from disciplinary actions for using borough property, equipment, and personnel for personal gain – CHECK.
Spot on #10 !
Funny how the Kool Aid Crew comes out of the woodwork to blame the current council for trying to clean up their mess! A significant tax increase was coming no matter what. Wake up people. Bean and the other Dems would have to do the same thing! Its just a convenient political platform to run on now. Cuts alone would not have made up for the 36 mil and counting debt the town is in. The Dems buried this town and are laughing at everyone. The current council has done more good for Belmar in this one year than anyone else has in the last 8….
#12 – I ask, Why have a council? Aren’t there 5 people on the dais so one person isn’t running the show? Maybe the thinking is a group decision is a more thought out decision? In the last 8 years only 2 (2015 & 2016) of them saw total Dem control. Of those 8 years, only one Republican, Walsifer, voted “yes” on the budgets. Wright and Bean voted all “no’s” for their own reasons. I’m not saying that Councilman now Mayor Walsifer is responsible for “burying this town” but at least hold him a little responsible. And if you disagree, they again I ask, Why even has a council? If the Mayor was duped for 2 years as a Councilman, then what good is having a councilman? If he knew and voted “yes” to a budget that borrowed $1 Mil from the beach last year, then he is just as partially responsible as the rest of the Dems council members.
Last point, to vote yes to a budget that borrowed money from the beach utility, then as Mayor take out a beach utility bond to repay the loan is kind of unethical. The whole council voted yes to bond. Why have a council? So they can all be unethical together, just like past years. Sad, nothing has changed.
Not saying much. Anybody could have done better than prior administration. Even me
#12 – Sir/ Madam, no one ever said “Cuts alone would not have made up for the 36 mil and counting debt the town is in.” But that doesn’t change the fact that cuts must be made. We should start with a 10% personnel layoff in every dept. It’s harsh, but these things have to be done in times like these.
If that’s not enough, furloughs after that.
#13- Spot on. Inept as councilman and now inept as mayor. I take responsibility for this past budget, I voted for him. I will no longer take responsibility for his lack of courage. I will vote for Jim Bean and will not vote for this mayor again. I expected some kind of effort on his part to soften the massive tax increase. A budget cut. We did not get it. Bye bye M&C
Not sure if anyone but Colleen, Matt and yes, Robbin, knew about the money taken from the beach utility pot and brought to the other pot. The budget was such a mess, it was hard to understand it. And Colleen was always a fast talker.
It didn’t help Mark Levis when he voiced disagreement with his fellow Dems and it didn’t help Jim Bean when he spoke out against either party. If you want to get elected and actually help, you have to bide your time and come in when you can. That’s politics.
#17 – I believe what you’re saying is walk the political party line or shut up.
#18- Correct. Walk the Independent party line and put up, not shut up.
No, what I’m saying is work with people and do the best you can to keep a good relationship while making positive change. It’s virtually impossible to get to be mayor if you vote against everything.
#20 – I finally understand. Belmar is in the financial shape it is because someone wanted to be Mayor. Totally worth it in my eyes.
#21 That’s why nothing happens overnight.
#21- Bravo, let’s keep blaming the past crooked admin. over and over and over again. Can they somehow blame M.D. for the lack of budget cuts?? They will try.
Let’s all just keep bickering while Belmar burns. That should do it.
Past admin was criminal and should be held accountable for the clear unethical behavior. Either through state officials or the courts. For me, that’s a priority.
This current admin should make cuts to the budget to offset the bad behavior debt we are in. It wont be popular- everyone cries out for cuts until those cuts impact their life in some way- but that’s the way it needs to be. Ok? Can we all agree on that?
Perhaps Mr Bean will be able to change things by himself. I don’t think that is realistic but he seems willing to try. It will, at the very least, send a message to the current M&C that the voters want budget cuts. Let’s all work together, and together we can change things.
I’m looking for redevelopment of antiquated structures and surrounding areas, into thriving income producing tax ratables that will lessen our tax burden in the future for 2 generations.
Line up voters!
Vote for “Bean and Dean”. I love it. Got my vote.
#25- Great idea as long as the redevelopment isn’t done in a redevelopment zone. Those redevelopments will not have ‘ratables’ for any generation. They pay a payment to the town in lieu of taxes for up to 30 years.
Yes, Matt Doherty peed all over this town and that WILL be felt for several generations.
