Why would the press know about this? Someone felt the need to alert the media. Here’s the thing: If D’Jais closed, this place could become a lovely B&B and love people could come to the shore for a long weekend. Without D’Jais, the Benny clientele would change drastically. There’s really only one reason a place like this will continue to be what it is, and that’s D’Jais. Don’t give in. We can stop this and we can reign in D’Jais till he sells the land and retires.
I read the violations section to our mayor and council last night (minus Nicolay and Walsifer). I was curious as to how to how that list of violations was so long and extensive since the proprietors had to get a CO every year to operate and the violations were obviously long standing. I was told that our previous inspector didn’t do a good job and our new inspector is much better.
I may be mistaken but didn’t the former guy get arrested for kickbacks or something? Anyone know?
For years the residents were calling police and complaining to town hall and those violations were never looked into. Wow.
the neighbors of 12th are happy to have the belmar inn back compared to the alternative. Our fight against progress has worked. No changes will come. Our uneducated old closed minds have prevented a change that would have benefited the entire surrounding community. But all of us here on 12th are grateful, we would rather deal with the devil we know after all.
#4 Your ignorance is astonishing!Belmar residence-“Get the Belmar Inn closed! We would welcome anything but that drug infested eyesore”. Reality-” It’s too much height, too many people,on and on, and on”. Do you think that 1. D’Jais doesn’t see what a ball busting this developer is getting to turn around a neighborhood? What is their incentive to sell? 2. D’Jais has proven for the past 25 years it can not be reigned in! Get a clue! Open the Inn back up and keep your complaints to yourself!
I’m a little confused by number 8’s comment regarding number 4’s comments. It seems to me both are agreeing that the 12th ave project is bad for the entire community. Am I missing something?
I’m surprised our BA hasn’t convinced McGovern to bond out $3M to purchase the property. We can then sell it to DPep the builder for $150k and ask him to pave us a parking lot near BarA (to help their patrons out with parking on a Tuesday nite). Oh, sorry, we did that already. Silly me.
Katrina and Terry, the only confusion is that you have complained for 20 years about an eyesore and I have been embarrassed to say was in my own town and you allowed it to reopen. Nice Job!!!! Go tell the PD to do their job now….how has that worked for you. Disgusting the lack of vision.
Work crew at the Belmar Inn. One guy sitting on an overturned plaster bucket.
Windows boarded up around first floor, other windows wide open so all the rain comes in. Six to eight extra large dumpsters filled and carted away with mattresses, furniture etc. Alarm system with cameras installed first floor level to keep the squatters out. Just a few of the observations.
I’m still totally confused. I just can’t figure out if you want the project or not. No need to get hostile I’m just asking you to clarify your position.
Anonymous #14—– to catch you up on this blog of “haters” it is clear if you have an opinion different then that of a daily complainer such as Katrina, Old man, All Trumped Up, Maria, Joan, etc., then you are considered hostile to them and their old closed minds. Its unfortunate because most of what they say is their opinions, not verified and not 9 out of 10 times not entirely accurate. But because of the select “haters” they are limiting the potential for the entire Borough of Belmar. Its a shame that because some people are loud and obnoxious they think they are always right. But there is no compromise with these haters its their way or no way, yet none of them are trying to come up or invest their dollars in the solution for permanent change.
I don’t want condos. I can see they’re bluffing with the threat to re-open. Sorry to #8 that my post is confusing to you. It seems clear to others, but I’ll try to be more clear next time.
#16…. Main Street is clearly being over developed… If the town allows large condo complexes in residential neighborhoods, this could be the beginning of the end… There are no facts required, it is just the preferred manner many home owners would like to see the town developed…. Build single family homes on the lots and allow the town to maintain some charming character….
#18 That is called “urbanization.” There are places where that is normal; whoever likes that environment should live there, not convert a lovely small town into something else. Doherty is gone, so who on council is going to make money (political contributions) off these projects? Maybe nobody?
I am very concerned/angry, but not interested in starting a fire with your other bloggers that veer from the actual issue and instead bash immigrants and the local public school.
old closed minds may not listen but those who may be more intelligent will. For one not every lot can expand into condos in a residential area. That argument is ridiculous, the difference between a lot already existing as a conforming residential and one that is not conforming and has a rooming house with a business that increases the value, attracts the drug addicts and low life’s that support the belmar inn and make a profit and continue, the borough can’t shut them down or force them out. The rooming house license exists but once it is forfeited the borough will not approve another. Common sense by bringing home owners oppose to day to day tenants brings a sense of pride and caring about the community, if people invest in belmar they’ll care, oppose to visitors. Investments in belmar means more monies to fund the schools and entire community without increasing others taxes. That’s why it’s sad certain people without knowledge are preventing this positive growth with a benefit to all. I don’t know about you but i would much rather a neighbor who wanted to create a home in belmar and put their money where their mouth was oppose to the neighbor residing at a belmar inn house rooming where I have to worry about the homeless hookers drug addicted John overdosing???? Is that how the old closed minded 12th Ave neighbors want their quality of life? I think the community both of belmar deserves better
#23.Best thing for that building would be to send it’s “remains” to the dump. A few new houses in that spot is just fine. You must have a “money”interest in this project. You should move to Asbury..
If there is a problem with drug addicts and low life at the Belmar Inn , then it is a matter for law enforcement. Growth and high density housing is not necessarily beneficial for Belmar residents.
The Belmar Inn is on its last leg, with all these issues it’s just a matter of time… Let’s wait for a developer with a town friendly development plan… Hopefully the next election cycle will be favorable and over development is ended….
#23- How’s this for open minded. Homeless people, hookers, drug addicts and John’s are all God’s Children. You may even sit next to them in the pew this Sunday. They are human beings and have a right to live wherever they choose regardless of their status. It is the duty of the town Officials to enforce all laws and code violations that exist. Apparently the town has been lax over time to allow this eyesore and illicit activity to exist. With efforts, this business could be turned into a high class hotel, B&B, or as in the case with the Sussex/Essex, high priced apartments. High density condos are not what residential areas need. The whole idea of condos is to make a quick buck for attorneys, present property owner, and builders, all, while bending the zoning rules established. Move back to Jersey City, you don’t belong in Belmar.
Nothing and that’s my point. The bloggers will make it about that. They always do. That’s my frustration. we can’t have an intelligent conversation/debate
The former “no Show” Fire Marshal must have answers. Speculate that a certain sub-standard hotel was a convenient flop house for a certain powerful but troublesome bar/club. Capeesh?
#13. I have to take offense at you using my name in your garbage. I do not remember discussing anything on this blog with anyone about the cancer that has occurred on 12th Ave. Get your names straight and stop using mine. If
I want to speak I use my name and am
Happy to if I have something to add. Try using yours?

Such an amateur tactic to try to sway the community. Open it back up and watch it get shutdown again.
These are not average repairs that need to be completed. Check mate!!!!
Board of Adjustment meeting, Wednesday, July 25. Plan on attending.
Height is now 45 feet with parapet. All other variances the same.

It was John Rizzatello and he was arrested for double billing.

Get rid of them all……..

Isn’t anyone interested in my story about school aid and the state income tax? Belmar is being hosed by the state for like $8 mil every year!
I am very concerned/angry, but not interested in starting a fire with your other bloggers that veer from the actual issue and instead bash immigrants and the local public school.

In the back of my mind I’m reminded of all those down to the wire, last minute, before the Sheriff Sale, hotel fires at the Jersey Shore..
State aidless, what does getting inadequate money for education have to do with bashing immigrants?

Does the hotel have fire sprinklers? If not it is dangerous
