Tomorrow’s Agenda

I heard Brandywine wants to knock down our Borough Hall and put a multi-story residential building on the site.

So we can build a new 9 million dollar town hall and police dept?

How much does a 1/3 block of Main street sell for?

#5-Well, based on what other public property has been sold for behind closed doors, about $150k, if they agree to pave a parking lot. But your personal home lot may be valued by the local tax assessor for a lot more.

  8. I heard the same thing. He’s gonna stick around long enough to get this through to take care of his Jersey City boys. Hey McDirty, haven’t you done enough harm to the taxpayers of Belmar? Just go away!

YES MATTHEW! Finally, a half decent idea on the surface to add a parking garage in a town that sorely suffers from parking in the summer.

NO MATTHEW! Adding 100+ units with exclusive rights to that parking garage will not actually help the parking situation.

By adding 100+ families (of which a % will likely be low rent), it will have drastic consequences that Belmar may never be able to recover from.

A multitude of obvious problems will arise.

The traffic in Belmar will increase with 100+ new families in the north end of town (Which will undoubtedly effect the entire town). Just imagine a summer weekend when the Main Street bridge is up. This not only wastes people’s time sitting in traffic, but also creates a bit of a hazard with all the congestion. (People, Bikes, and Cars getting hit by cars).

The parking situation will grow exponentially. Many of us Belmar residents enjoy the company of family and friends. I assume the new residents at “Doherty’s Devious, Detrimental Development”, also enjoy the company of family and friends. The current plan calls for hardly any guest spots. If each family has 1 guest car a weekend, that’s over 100 cars looking for spots in a tiny radius of town between 6th and 7th avenue.

Main Street non-bar businesses with low foot traffic will suffer. People already park on Main Street to go to the beach and marina. Want to drive to Mike’s Submarines? Anchor Tavern and Marina Grille already hog enough parking. Want to enjoy Belmar Bagel, Hoagitos, Simply Southern, or Belmar BBQ? People will be parking there and walking to the Marina, Beach, and “Doherty’s Devious, Detrimental Development.”

Our already dying recreation program will be put to death. I was not sure how the Jr. Guards would last with our lifeguards no longer employed. You can add basketball to the list since we will no longer have a gym. Maybe we will make an agreement to merge our recreation programs completely with Avon or Spring Lake.

Finally, what kind of rent will these units actually charge? Will we be getting good people that will spend money on local businesses? Will it attract drunken hooligans? I would like to assume there will be no summer rentals, but I am afraid the benefit of the doubt has been lost ages ago in this town. With the potential uptick in low rent units, we open ourselves up to drug issues and other crimes. Are we beginning to see a fall from grace like Asbury Park? The barbarians did eventually take Rome, but it was due to corruption and in-fighting brought about by poor leadership.

WINNERS: Matt Doherty, Wife Maggie, Colleen Connelly, any political buddy involved in the deal, the barbarian invaders.

LOSERS: We the people of Belmar.

Let’s get out and stop this thing tomorrow night before it consumes us.

Say NO to “Doherty’s Devious, Detrimental Development”.

Word around town is the building will have 200+ units, a parking garage, and the recreation gym will be moved to the Church where the seniors meet. It will be worse than we can imagine, and more than Belmar can and should endure!

Before attending another plastic bag meeting please count how many plastic bottles, food containers, clothing, tools, chairs, shoes, plates, tables and sundry items you have in your house. Why not recycle everything right now. It works well if practiced in the and, remember your home is full of plastic including your walls.

Teach your children and other family members to recycle.

Fortunately for all of the posters to this blog, your voices will never be heard and you can rest assured because of that, there will always be something to comment about on belmarcommonsense.org What has to be understood with any blog/blogger, is they are not real reporters. This entire blog is built with bias in mind whether intentionally or not, solely because it is one person cherry picking tidbits of information and reporting to illustrate their opinion. Short story long, don’t pay so much homage to a man with a WordPress account and a bitter outlook on the town he resides in. For everyone else, if you truly don’t like what you see and actually are harboring these negative feelings, maybe it’s time for relocation or a visit to your shrink and they will gladly tell you your problem is you don’t have any problems. Face it Belmar is evolving and you’re not. David, try not to edit this comment too much…..
