I suggested using the field across from the elementary school as the location (it was on grass across from the pavilion year before). It already has a fence around it, you aren’t losing parking spaces, or aren’t blocking existing business parking area. I never understood closing the biggest parking lot in town for a large event. And there are bars literally everywhere. Why do we need beer tents? Who suggested that this supports Belmar businesses? Where is the BBP on this?

Belmar doesn’t need this. In fact, why have a tourist commission? If the borough cannot show a profit on the books, well, with all that cash flying around…think about it.

why is the entire area fenced off? wouldnt that hurt the local business and prevent ingress and egress

#1 Your suggestion is to logical. Clog the streets again with cars. Buy your fish from Acme/Shop-Rite and cook it yourself. My son, CPA, wants complete financials (income statement). Also please include amounts borough employees have more money put into their pension fund because of this festival. Cops, DPW etc.

#1 – You suggest having it on the baseball and softball fields? My understanding is that those fields are used by local leagues for a fee. I can’t imagine them being in great playing shape after 30K people stomp all over them. In fact, would probably cost money to rehabilitate them and if not in good shape, the leagues would go elsewhere. If the seafood fest brings in more money than it costs to fix the fields, then I guess that should be considered. If not, then the parking lot it is…. Personally, the best spot I think would be the Sea Girt Army Camp. Plenty of open field space and it is fenced in with security.

#8, I’m sure that something can be done so the fields don’t get wrecked. Maybe not put the majority of vendors in inner field? We know what the grass looks like after the festival because it was held in the grass for years. I never heard of any group or wedding party at the pavilion complaining about how bad the grass was tore up. I don’t remember any concern about the Silver Lake field needing “rehabilitated”. Your concern seems a bit silly.

New Jersey Seafood Festival belongs at the National Guard Camp in Sea Girt. That’s where the Irish Festival is held and if it’s good enough for Murphy’s people it’s good enough for Belmar.

Could the plan for fences this year be a test run to see if fencing the event works? If so, they would then be able to charge an admission fee in the future?

With any luck, this’ll be the last year of the Seafood Festival. All it’s about is the same old vendors selling high priced 2nd/3rd rate food accompanied by some band. You can get that easily from the same vendors at the Bradley Beach festival or any of the other such events at the shore every summer. Belmar gets nothing from this event but a bunch of people flooding into the town littering all over the place. We have our own litterers who don’t need any outside help.
