You might not have noticed, but among the meetings the Mayor was absent for were both meetings at which liquor licenses were being voted on. I don’t believe this was an accident. Belmar’s pay to play laws disqualifies from voting on liquor licenses for three years anyone who has taken contributions from liquor license holders or anyone who has taken pass-through contributions. The Mayor has done both. Rather than publicly accept the sanction and recuse himself, he has skirted the issue by skipping the meetings.
Tuesday he’ll have another problem concerning eligibility to vote. Having taken those pass-through contributions he is also ineligible to vote on development matters.
I believe that a major redevelopment overhaul, one that doubles the size of the redevelopment zone to include the entire business district, would be considered to be a “development matter”.
It will be interesting to see what he does.

I doubt He will show up at the meeting.
We really need to keep the pay to play ordinance stay exactly as it is now and especially after the special election.
But for the doherty council tampering with this protective ordinance Belmar citizens would never have been enlightened as to how much graft and bribes we would have been exposed to somewhat on the scales of Jersey City John V. Kenny’s corruption or Boss Tweed or Nucky Johnson even.
You don’t think he’ll have one of those condescending lectures ready to go?
He does not have to show up, he has 4 devout Koolaid drinkers that will vote what he tells them. Recusing himself, what a phony he is.
Sad what is going on in Belmar.
Fickle finger of fate pointed at Belmar Borough Hall. Govenmental Waste in this small borough is on the order of the 6K wrench. Mcdirty repeatedly has acted like Your money grows on trees. Of course, his frivolity means you don’t get to spend it as discretionary income.
