Uh. I believe they do it in Bradley.
The recycle decision looks like a no-brainer, but what analysis was performed to determine our real annual cost now and why wasn’t this sent back out for rebidding?
I’m very happy to read Belmar is actually doing something to cut costs. It’s a step in the right direction.
Something stinks. Pre=election day BS. I thought they just reduced DPW headcount by 7?????? Wow, these remaining guys are either supermen of have plenty of extra time on their hands. And what about salaries for two guys to pick this crap up??
Also, recycling is overrated. Just advise residents to place all their paper(which is value-less) and glass in with the garbage that DeLisa picks up. They will sort it at the dumps.
Once a week is all we should provide pick up of recyclables for. Save a ton of $$.

Did the BA forget to include salaries in his total savings equation ?

#9- You are really being deceived. The most costly part of any towns budget is the payroll. Employees, in this case, do labor. What is actually happening here is that the labor required to do this job will now be shifted from an outside source to an in house source. Sooo, if there is more labor a town needs to perform, there will be a need for more employees. Municipal employees are very expensive (hence the constant shift to out-source tasks to private entities) Municipal/governments are very inefficient in doing such jobs. And if their excuse will be, we do not have to hire more labor(municipal workers) to do the work, then perhaps we still have more headcount cutting to go. THAT my friends is how you cut your budgets. Not some gimmicky thing that will cost you more in the long run. Notice the omittance in the article of the labor costs. You will now have $100k and year(bennies and costs)employees doing work that can be done by $30k and year laborer. How could that possibly make sense?? Political, pre-election day BS
Maybe we should stop picking up recycling materials all together.
Read the article. They are going to use two existing garbage trucks that we already own AND existing staff. Also remember you can bring your stuff to the recycle center.
This is a win win for residents.
But we care afford a private company to hang Christmas lights on main street? I thought public works did that too !Are we broke or not?

#12-Existing staff that are presently doing what??? Apparently we have been over staffed all these years and now have something for these existing staff members to do. Or will we now have to hire outside companies to do the work that these existing staff members once did but now have to collect recyclables?? Get it?? Political day before election day BS and you know it.
Maybe we were over staffed.
Anyone who believes for a second these guys are going to cut one cent in spending, I’ve got a bridge to sell you – cheap, what a deal.
And anonymous it’s time to come out of the closet. Any arguments made on this blog anymore anonymously are for me not worth listening to or considering as valid. Let’s open up dialogue. Not hide behind a veil.
No. 11 sounds like a summer rental dweller, who likes keeping their empty cans/bottles/bongs/pipes/bottle caps and glycine envelopes as trophies that they can show off to their other stinking disreputable pals/neighbors

#19 not even close,some people want tax cuts,when tax cut is proposed people start coming up with theories of why it will not work, all tax cuts come at a cost I am suggesting that if you really want to save money we all take our recyclables to recycling not fool proof but it would save real money.
#21 Spending cuts not tax cuts? Cut expenses and the desired result down the road could result in a tax cut. Hauling ones recyclable stuff to the depot by the railroad is a good idea, but who will actually do that. Some people will complain that the service was taken away, ooo, bad Republicans.
#22 – Cut, cut, cut. All out austerity program. Layoffs/furloughs, selling off of unneeded equipment, no more festivals (too much overtime). New contracts should reflect the financial difficulties of the town (worker givebacks), Etc., Etc., Etc. All savings should go towards our debt. Don’t look for these characters to every do those things. Vote for Jim Bean. He’s the “Real Deal.”
People. It’s apparently time to take matters into your own hands regarding your taxes. Throw all of your so-called recyclables in with your garbage. We can then put those two guys that would have been re-assigned to recycle duty at $100k a year, back to doing what they were trained to do. Don’t really know what that may be though. I’m sure if you ask it will be answered. Transparency at it’s best.
