When I worked as an administrator for the state of New Jersey I took a lead role in “spearheading” numerous projects. In doing so, I was working for a government agency, and therefore most of the correspondence on such activities went out under the Director or Commissioners signature, no mine.
Recently our Borough had a chance to participate in a program sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Transportation. To address this, as chairman of the Belmar pedestrian and safety committee, I drafted a letter to the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation for Mayor Doherty’s signature. I would characterize my activities as “spearheading” this effort for the borough.
My point is this: a person can spearhead a program without official correspondence needing to be processed with or in their name. I think in part it is called teamwork. To me that is a necessary performance standard of a Belmar council person, that of teamwork.
For the administrator of this blog to make an indirect inference that a person (in this case Councilwoman Nicolay) may not have been spearheading an activity seems disingenuous: I see it as a purposeful attempt to discredit someone without knowing the facts of the matter. This is not the type of characteristic or standard of performance that I want from someone who is running to be a councilman from my town.
If the facts are correct as reported in the article, then Ms. Nicolay should be commended for spearheading the effort on our behalf. Give credit where and when it is due and stop trying to find so much fault. I think Mr. Schneck, unless he can offer documentation to back up his innuendo, should apologize to Ms. Nicolay.

    June 3, 2015 minutes:
    WORKSHOP DISCUSSION:
    – Mayor Doherty stepped off the dais. Ms. Connolly discussed contract negotiations with two water utilities. She gave a background on the Borough’s history with NJ American Water and NJ Water Authority. Belmar is currently purchasing more water than needed due to a contractual agreement done in the 1990s. Those contracts are coming to an end. Met with DEP to discuss options. The contractual requirement for purchase will be reduced by 43%. This maximizes how much the Borough can draw through the ground on our wells. We would start pumping out of our own wells 6 months out of the year rather than 4. This would also save the Borough around $300,000 a year in the water utility. Will have contracts on for approval at the next meeting hopefully.

The Belmar Democratic Committee website also credits Ms. Nicolay with the Summer Camp. I have exhausted my research. Typically, the council person involved at least talks about it during their presentations. None. Nor can I find any publicity in the papers. Online it just says that deadline June 1 for registration and same post says camp is full.

Not to change the subject. Due to the purchase of Family Dollar by Dollar Tree a number of locations have be sold to Sycamore Partners a private equity group. The Belmar Plaza location is one of a number of NJ stores that have been sold in NJ. The new name will be Family Dollar Express hopefully they will do well enough to stay open. This deal is subject to the Govt. anti trust approval.

Burke doth protests too much. His entire rant is based on his belief that the Belmar Democratic Committee FYI propaganda piece should be treated like
a bonified objective news article. When we start treating such as having the same merits as an OPRA request, we the people are in deep trouble.

rant. [rant] /rænt/ verb (used without object) to speak or declaim extravagantly or violently; talk in a wild or vehement way; rave: The demagogue ranted for hours.

No, my “rant” as you view it, is based not on propaganda, rather on what I say with the paragraph that begins discussing the point I am making.

May I suggest you read again what I wrote, not as a rant but as defending a person being maligned by innuendo. It has nothing to do at all with any political party, it has to do with being respectful.

Mr. Burke: I was referring to yet another definition of rant: ” to express at length a complaint or negative opinion.” Perhaps if you had edited out all the self-serving biographical/political campaigning comments, I would have not been able to use this particular subset definition.
I will refrain in future comments and limit my opinion to : verbose and self-serving out of respect.

at 12 p.m.. If you are so concerned about attacks ( even by innuendo ) against Ms. Nicolay, why are you not concerned about attacks in the past ( much more direct ) against Mr. Schneck?
You did say it has nothing to do with political parties. The Libertarian Party is a political party.
