Didn’t Doherty promise that if was over $4.1 mil they wouldn’t build it?
Oh no here we go again………..I will vote NO and go home and take…….you guessed it. Three aspirins!!!
Actually in that wonderful exchange he had with me at the meeting he said he would personally support a recall of himself if it was over 4.1 mil
Blatant foolishness by this administration. Just Vote in November. Primary elections are just for the machinations of the very few manipulators pulling the strings. It’s your pockets about to be fleeced.
Who is giving out misleading information? In this article Belmar BA states the new Taylor “roughly 7000 sq.feet.
Nov.12,2013 Maser proposal document for
new Taylor 7,700 sf.
March 2014 Maser Pricing document new Taylor 7,000 $3,199 without utilities
$415.45 per sq. ft.
Engineering for 2 pavilions add $1,035,501 so lets say $600,000. for eng. fees Taylor
No big deal the additional 878.3 sq. feet @ 415.45 + a sf = $364,889.7 +
Now lets look at the FEMA payments.
Nov.13,2013- $1,943,599.00 @90%=
$1,749,240. Not sure about insurance, not sure about buy-a-board. At worst the YES folks want us to bond 4.1 million with FEMA paying $1.749 million. At their best if ins. and buy-a-board bond 4,100,000. with 2.9 million compensation.
Council President Magovern’s letter to the editor illustrates a major problem with Belmar, the council do not do their homework. Hence they just repeat like parrots. Central to Mr. Magovern’s letter to the editor is FEMA will reimburse Belmar 90% of the cost to rebuild the Taylor Pavilion.
This would lead the average uninformed voter to believe that if the cost, what we are bonding is 4,100,000. then FEMA will reimburse us 4,059,000. But we copied the FEMA project worksheet as well as the approved FEMA payment via Congressman Chris Smith’s office. We are approved for 90% of our FEMA submission of 1,943,599.00 @90% equals 1,924,163.
He makes two ridiculous and false statements about the petitioners. 1. that we wish to rebuild Taylor to the old pre Sandy standards. FEMA would not allow this and the very FEMA project worksheet estimating the costs to rebuild at 1.943 million states the new code and standards. DAH! 2.That we propose a Taylor without winterization, to be used in the summer only. Not one member of our group ever said that. Nor have we proposed not building a replacement Taylor.
#3 – I was there and heard him say that. So how can we make him keep to his word, just this once? (Was Matt being, uh, wait for it: frivolous?)
Today, I read a letter by a resident who lives on 9th Avenue, writing on behalf of both her and her husband. She is upset that 353 petitioners are stopping the Taylor without an ounce of facts. Despite all of our efforts to give the voters the facts last summer. Either she never read them or didn’t care to consider them.
I have a complete list of voters for the special election. The writer didn’t even bother to register to vote in the 8/19/14 special election. Her husband is registered, but did not vote. Now they are crying foul. Do you think if it is so important an issue, you should at least have voted YES last August?
#8. They were probably under the impression that the vote was in the bag. After all the parties being hosTed for the yes sirs and the tons of money spent on advertising, the yes sirs thought they’d win so why should they waste their timeto come out for a Special Election
Well that’s what we are giving the public with that petition. Another chance to voice their opinion. The sad fact is that it is very hard to get the info out there. We have no money just a belief in community involvement. Hard work. Fortitude. Belief that what we are doing is helping to protect Belmar’s financial future. It’s only gonna get worse as the expensive PR machine ratchets up their attacks.
6 well said , he was a gym teacher
#11 being a gym teacher doesn’t mean anything. He doesn’t think or research independently,THATS the problem
Candidate Burke Double Downs on Vote Yes! He posted today that petitioners
are not making a big deal about the 10th Ave. only Taylor. Did he ever hear of compromise? The Safety Building is still way to expensive: FEMA Project worksheet Cost to repair at old standards $ $448,677. or $168.83 per sf. New codes standards $1,198,825. or $451.15 per sf. @ 90% $1,079,033.. The $920,967 difference from FEMA and the 2 Million bond illustrates this fact. But because the Beach Utility will completely pay for the difference, the voters and petitioners compromised. Most want Taylor but not the way it’s being done.
The $4.3M new cost doesn’t surprise me …. Maser is probably constipated with unpaid invoices for the bad idea pavilion plans …. How much has been spent to date?
Wanna’ buy some electricity?
Came Across Colleen Connolly Testimony to Local Finance Board 5/2/14 Proposal for two pavilions $7 Million- no down payment.
Ms. Connolly:
Do you have some insurance money for the buildings that were insured, that would additionally help offset that.
Mr. Neff: How much….
Ms. Connolly: $500,000.
Mr. Neff: So nothing close to what the project costs are?
Ms. Connolly: No.
Mr. Neff: Okay. My review of your project worksheets, which we had requested and we reviewed, suggested to me that the project worksheets for the Fifth and Tenth Avenue pavilions were $3.1 million in total, or am I incorrect in that?
Ms. Connolly: I think you are in the right ballpark, yes.
Mr. Neff: So presumably for those two pavilions. ninrty percent of the $3.1 million is what the reasonable estimate would be for what FEMA would pay for those two projects; correct?
Ms. Connolly: Correct.
Mr.Neff: There is some portion of the costs at the end of the day that will be borne by Belmar either through the beach utility or through just general–through the general budget.
Ms. Connolly: Absolutely.
Can’t fault testimony. No if and’s of but’s on this one
