Absolute Power….

From “The Plan” :

A. Plan VisionĀ

The vision of the Redevelopment Plan is to facilitate the redevelopment of the Boardwalk Redevelopment Area in a manner that is in the best interest of the Borough of Belmar, its residents, taxpayers and property owners. The redevelopment process includes a number of powers and financial tools that are available to a municipal governing body upon adoption of a redevelopment plan. One of the powers in Section 8 of the LocalĀ Redevelopment and Housing Law is the power to enter into redevelopment agreements with a redeveloper and another is the power to convey or lease public property (as provided in a redevelopment agreement) to a designated redeveloper without public bid. These powers are expressly granted for the purpose of implementing an adopted redevelopment plan.

Oh, do you really think that we would do anything like that? I think this statement in the plan must be a mistake because our local government officials would not allow this to happen would they? I am sure when questioned about this statement they will say is nothing to worry about and that something like this would never happen in Belmar . I know that we can trust them because that is what they will ask (or is it tell)us to do. So, this just does not seem to be anything to worry about if you are planning to move and really don’t give a crap about Belmar.
