contractors hired to remove debris from burned areas in Santa Rosa excavated so much extra material that they damaged driveways, septic systems, wells and other features on hundreds of properties
.
Given these subcontractors were paid per ton of soil removed, it is probable this over-excavation was an intentional effort to capitalize on this tragedy by defrauding the government
.
AshBritt, which contracted with the federal government to clean up the disaster, and another company owned by AshBritt chairman Randal Perkins together donated $250,000 to the state Democratic Party on Oct. 4, campaign filings show. Two weeks earlier, AshBritt CEO Brittany Perkins donated $29,200 to Newsom’s campaign, the maximum allowed.

Remember the Ocean Avenue”Pyramids of Belmar”? That was condemned back then but Mcdirty covered that gouging up. Nice connections you have Brian!
Why is this relevant now ? It’s like, let’s continue making Doherty and his wife look bad. Give it up! He’s gone! Move on! Superstorm Sandy was several years ago. Ash Britt has a problem? So what! While you covered the loan forgiven by FEMA, I didn’t see a huge headline ; no feature article on this blog. Let’s move along to a fair, balanced approach to BELMAR happenings.
#2 I’ll tell you why. Because the current Belmar democrats were there during Sandy/Ash Britt clean up. Hmmmmmmmmmm???
And as long as they’re still in office, the same shady business will continue. The current mayor and business administrator do not care one bit about Belmar, it’s residents or employees.
While I’m not a big fan of the present administration, making innuendos, as in #2 , you have nothing to stand on as far as what went on/ is going on. I for one was glad that Belmar was cleaned up so quickly after Sandy. Say what you want, but the sitting council members are as honest as the day is long. Brian Magovern doesn’t have a dishonest bone in his body. Do I like him ? No. The word “shady” doesn’t fit here. To make blatant statements such as posted in both 2 and 3 are wrong and don’t do anyone or anything in town any good.
The Mcg government was the same rubberstamp during the Doherty Administration. We are and forever in our lifetimes be in debt. Beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing. Kenny was fooled by Doherty and then we were stuck with that power mad team and we are still under their thumb politically.
Judge Gummer’s Decision citing Connelly’s negative character didn’t stop the Avon Parent’s Association from having her selected as Treasuer.
#5 OMG What the hell are you talking about
#8-Maybe this line from a poem will help you understand my remarks:
“By those who wallow in the mud flounder in the past.”
Barry Conway
Having reread my remarks, my words are perfectly clear.,
#9 Barry Conway/ Tin Conway/Joe Conway Who the hell cares….All BS… The Democrats stink…………………
Yawn!
Thanks Average Joe! Me thinks I struck a nerve! Glad you found my poem entertaining, # 11.
The PTA either doesn’t read or they
are a little slow. To bad that is a
nice school with a board that has a
lot of interest in what is going on.
I do nor remember anyone saying Brian
was not honest or dirty. However the ex
mayor and the future CFO are still very
involved in what is going on in town.
We are in disaster mode at the moment.
#11 Idiot
Tulip-Read #4 . The “as long as they’re in office” quote. Refers to sitting council members. To me the word shady means not on the right side of things. Brian shouldn’t be placed in this category. He is a very honest person.
The slimy residue from the former administration is still present. It will not go away until there is a drastic change of the form of government or a massive shake up of the council and mayor. Burying the heads in the sand is not moving forward. Pretending that corruption did not happen is not a way to change anything. Brian and some council members may be nice people in their personal lives, but what they were complicit to while in power does not exonerate them. Not at all.
Real problems we should be looking at are the changes they will be making before the election. Does anyone know how many resumes they received for the CFO position? Or is it really just being handed down to the Borough Administrator? Is that something we as residents could OPRA? What are the candidates thoughts on the hiring for this position?
#16- Brian=Honesty??? Unfortunately Brian’s past is not debatable on this blog.
#16…I also think Brian is a very honest person, and I’ve always admired him. However, he can’t and won’t be an honest mayor if Colleen is still involved. I know most readers on here don’t care too much about how boro employees are treated, but it’s an important issue. Just as important as all the other issues in town. As long as Colleen is employed by Belmar, the town will continue on the downward spiral it’s already on, and the employees will continue to be treated like garbage.
Didn’t Doherty use Brian shamelessly? Knowing he was easily lead is no excuse to allowing Middlesex to run the borough. They were worse than the bent nose crowd! Some say Brian was used as doherty’s mad dog on a leash.
Borough hall roof is leaking and Main Street lights are a public safety hazard that can only be discussed in executive session.
“Mayor of Belmar” is too big for Brian…
10-Democrats are great people. I’m sure, # 10, that you have friends and possibly relatives who are Democrats. Don’t group all with the word “stink. “
#22-Not only is the roof leaking, but before I left, there was mold everywhere, missing ceiling tiles everywhere, brown water stains on the remaining ceiling tiles, mice and squirrels in the building, and no heat in the 6th Avenue lobby. I know it hasn’t gotten any better. Every building or yard the borough owns is a dump. I’m so glad I got out of that place. Between the filth and the horrible disrespect for the employees, it’s a miracle that anyone even still works there.
The orange crate is gone today from the boardwalk, lease must have been up!
#23 I’ll say it again. All democrats stinks. FYI I don’t have any friends and all my family is dead.
Hey Joe, its not worth arguing with the holier than thou attitude of some of these libs. Some might call them “Below Average”
#27 Yea you are correct.
Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans have a monopoly on corruption. Both parties have decent, well meaning people trying to make a difference. And both parties have small minded, dishonest, and corrupted individuals that are involved in politics to serve their own selfish needs.
#16- At no time have I ever referred to
Brian as shady it isn’t a word I would.
use. I have known him and watched him
Reach adulthood. I have also mentioned
Items in the town that should be looked
At. Do I think he is shady not at this
Time. He may be following the wrong
Leader though.
Nice or not, honest or not good guy or not Brian McGoverns voting record speaks for itself.
He voted for:
Changing our pay to play laws which led to a lawsuit and forced a special election
Conbining the Lake Como pipe project with Taylor pavilion which led to a petition drive that forced them to split them.
Claiming the boardwalk as in need of redevelopment ( lost lawsuit number 1)
The use of only organized union labor which led to another petition drive against such an ordinance.
Original multi story mega pavilion buildings that started the whole mess and controversy about our recovery.
Spending 7 million dollars to rebuild Taylor.
Approving Colleen Connolly’s wording on ballet question concerning interpretation of the pavilion vote(lostin court) and forced petition drive.
All 10 ( I’ve lost count) lawsuits that the borough LOST under Matt Dorehty tenure had Brian’s yes vote attached to it. Costing the borough hundreds of thousands in leagal fees. Don’t forget all the appeals still in the works.
And most offensive was his lack of knowledge of the rules and regulations of the committee he was director of. The Joy DeSanctis tree planting fiasco was the direct responsibility of Brian not knowing his job.
I know everyone wants to move on and be “positive “ That’s all nice. But using Brian’s own history and voting record is fair and practical when one is deciding on one’s vote.
#31 Uh Yea
Welcome home Katrina. You are a voice of reason who has real life experience having peosonally witnessed Council meeting during the majority of the last 8 to 9 years. Tell it like it is and don’t waste any varnish.
