This article is not really written correctly Gene Cory was never a Lifeguard supervisor – he collected Beach badge money and runs the gate guards. What happened to Kevin O’Donnell. He get canned too ? the three other names are not lifeguards. They are gate guards. Replacing veteran leadership with someone who’s obviously buddies with someone in town and has not worked on the beach in about 25-30 years – smart move. NOT. I am sure the returning lifeguards will be all so pleased NOT. To quote one of the other blog posters. “Game On… Good Luck this summer”

For the most part it’s all a bunch of baloney to me. It’s one group of charakters replacing another group of characters in soft touch “jobs.” The point here is that all part’ies come to an end (the one guy had been there fooling around for over fifty years) and the party will end the new gang someday as well.

The queen of mean Colleen has added another puppet Kerecman to her other 2 that are already in place those being Campbell & Huisman. These 3 puppets are not strangers to each other hence this was a political appointment. It must be fun having your strings pulled by the queen of mean because a lot of people are doing it. How do these 3 people (the puppets) wake up everyday knowing a conniving & mean spirited individual is controlling everything they do? Oh that’s right they’re all double dipping…..for the love of money….Game on….let the games begin…..have a nice Summer……good luck…..

Unbelievable, politics at it’s best. Let’s see, retired from Monmouth county prosecutors office. Big deal. Probably friends with Mike Campbell. Monmouth county resident. Big deal. Didn’t Magovern say he wants Belmar residents to work the beach. Passionate about water and safety of beachgoers. Big deal. Tell me what lifeguard isn’t? The wealth of talent that’s going to show him what to do was trained by the crew you let go. This guy was a lifeguard 30 years ago in Avon. He has no idea what goes on in Belmar. To bring someone in from the outside is a total slap in the face to all who have worked there and the supervisors who had 150 years experience in Belmar. This guy doesn’t even come close to meeting the requirements that the borough put in their help wanted ad.This is total BS. Doherty, your a wimp. Magovern, your a wimp. Connolly, I don’t know what you are.

This is truly a very sad day. The Belmar Lifeguard crew has been one of the best for many years. Now they are going to be replaced with very inexperienced political cronies! My husband DOUG was Belmar beach director from 1968-1976. At that time he oversaw every aspect of boardwalk and beach business including badge sellers and gate people, lifeguards and special police officers who walked the boards. He oversaw the bathrooms as well. He did a routine daily bank deposit. Doug spent all day, every day during the summer months at the beachfront-ensuring that the entire operation ran like a well-oiled machine. He left the job when he became a school administrator, and on to a 12 month school contract. My children were very young during those years when he was a beach employee, and they loved saying Hi to their Dad when we went to the beach, always on the lookout for the vehicle he drove. During those years, there was a summer season when it rained only one day, so visiting him at the beach was truly special. Doug drove a big bright green station wagon provided by the borough, loaded down with daily supplies, and drove many of the elderly beachfront employees to and from the beachfront. Gene Cory followed my husband as beach director, so I believe his duties were the same as Doug’s.

Not minimizing Howard’s influence. He was “Belmar Beach” personified. But Doug did, indeed, did oversee the lifeguards. Howard came to our home early each summer along with his friend, Mr Kaufer, and reported to Doug the beach conditions for a particular day….temperature of water, rough or calm surf, and estimated times when conditions might change. They would also discuss the weather, and any possibility of rain. In brief, each summer day was discussed and planned for. My children were in high chairs at the time, and Howard and Mr Kaufer ( I think his name was Sid), had a cup of coffee during those days. This was at 7 am or earlier each summer morning .

In a comment in an earlier post, someone pointed out that everything done in Belmar prior to Doherty’s being mayor, was crap. What can you expect from a self-serving, ambitious yuppie political climber who craves power, everyone else be damned? Like Magovern, he knows what is best for Belmar. Good riddance, Mr. Mayor, and do your damage somewhere else, preferably some place, like an unoccupied island. Hope the bureaucrat role bores you into oblivion.

As for the tree planting in honor of Joy…I don’t know why there was a holdup . My sympathies go out to her family. We were very involved over the last two years with my mother-in-law’s care.
