Regarding the fight, the police were there quickly because there is a new “Bean Post” where officers remain posted on Bean’s block between 1:30am to 3am. I’m glad somebody is watching this blog.
Our mayor seems to condone this behavior when he tells residents that they should have been aware that this is what they were getting into when they moved into Belmar. When asked for help he seems to blame the victim
Victim shaming is his MO. Bully tactics practiced and implemented. How can the public on a whole think that it’s ok to essentially say NIMBY by the mayor in A 1 SQUARE MILE TOWN?
#6 – that is how this mayor defends the out of control mess that he and the council have perpetuated. If they were real leaders they would reduce the occupancy limits at the clubs and bars and most importantly eliminate the entry lines outside. Club is full – move along.
Time for a public petition for the council to publicly review the occupancy limits of all bars in town? While we’re at it we should find a way to include Lake Como establishments since it is ultimately Belmar taxpayers who are on the line for policing their establishments.
#9 “While we’re at it we should find a way to include Lake Como establishments since it is ultimately Belmar taxpayers who are on the line for policing their establishments.”
The Belmar police dept. is being paid by Lake Como tax payers to police Lake Como. They signed a renewable 10 year agreement.
I was told by younger people in my family that Bar A had a 6 hour wait the Tuesday after Memorial Day. 6 hours??? If they can not wait on the property of the establishment, then I agree with #8, move a long!
Two question – (1) Where is this onslaught of people coming from? Do they all ride the train, or are they shuttled in to town some how?
and #12 – 6 HOURS??? Why would anyone wait 6 hours? In 6 hours I could drive to Newark, board a plane fly to the Caribbean and have a drink at an all-inclusive….
#11 – Who pays the police salaries if the services for Lake Como exceed the cost of actually policing that town? Who is paying the police pension contributions and benefits? Correct, the taxpayers of Belmar.
#18…where there is a history of flooding.
So, where’s the pipe installation that was “shovel ready” according to said mayor a couple of years or so ago. He got votes and the people got hosed. That was another matter. Vote these bums out! Start with Brennan.
#14, the Mayor wants all businesses to have outside entertainment approval so that the online waiters can be entertained while they wait outside the BELMAR /LAKE COM fine dining establishments.
#17 -Matt signed a 10 year agreement with Lake Como to provide police services for Lake Como. He saw it as a way to increase revenue and keep Belmar taxes down. Lake Como taxpayers pays 25% of the Belmar police budget.
#22 – So the questions still remain – “Who pays the police salaries if the services for Lake Como exceed the cost of actually policing that town? Who is paying the police pension contributions and benefits?”
#26 – I will help you by rephrasing the question. What happens if the need for services in Lake Como exceeds 25% of the total budget for The Belmar police?
#27-It’s called, “The people of Belmar are subsidizing the policing needs of Lake Como.” to keep Lake Como from having to raise taxes for their own P.D. The people of Belmar pay for it by getting reduced police protection and safety. As we have seen quite recently. Go Matt.

At least the were walking to beat the clock. Afterwards walking dead and the reason is clear, overserved.

What happens when someone doesn’t come out of it and dies on the street
My comment, Disgraceful behavior
#3 I suggest you refer that question to our Mayor. He created this mess.

I am not defending this but you people are forgetting that Bar A is located in LAKE COMO!!!!
Why aren’t you critizing the mayor of LAKE COMO?

What would happen, at one of these overcrowded places if someone threw a large firework into the massive crowd?

The hanging around waiting for admission is all about the hook-up, I would think. There are other places to drink.
They are packing and buying on line.

Matt Doherty mayor of Belmar is very good at blaming the victim.”Why did you buy a home in the south end of town.”

#20 – Belmar and fine dining in one sentence is way to funny. Thanks for making me laugh.

There was no need for the 2nd person to be taken down like they were… The guy was a victim and the cop is now fucking with him using his authority..
#21: thank you I’m channelling George Burns, who as you know portrayed God with the Rocky Mountain guy.
#22–The answer is the police budget pays for the pension. Lake Como pays 25% of the police budget budget!!!
#26 – I will help you by rephrasing the question. What happens if the need for services in Lake Como exceeds 25% of the total budget for The Belmar police?

Thank you #28
#27 The police budget will probably be increased and the TAXPAYERS OF LAKE COMO WILL PAY 25% of that budget.
Now I ask you “What if the police protection of Lake Como is less than 25%. Will Belmar return any of the money that Lake Como paid for?”
