Belmar Loses An Important Resident…

And Gains A New One.

Steve Edelman, one of the plaintiffs in the redevelopment lawsuit and one of my favorite people in Belmar died of a sudden heart attack Sunday afternoon.  Karen and I are still shocked as I’m sure a lot of people are.  Obit can be read here.

We’ve only known Steve since I started hanging out with the Republicans a couple of years ago but right from the night that I met him I recognized that he was a really special person:  intelligent, sharp witted, thoroughly charming and dedicated to the improvement of Belmar.  It was really impossible not to like the guy.  I’m so sad that he’s gone.

Belmar’s population will, however, be unchanged as the town celebrates the birth of a prince, Seamus Matthew Doherty, born 2:40 PM New Year’s Day (did you plan that, Matt?) at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch.  Congratulations Matt and Maggie!

Steve will indeed be missed by many of us. The second paragraph above says it all, I too concur.

Since hearing the news of Steve’s passing,I feel such a profound sense of loss. As with many others here in Belmar, I will focus on his friendship and carry forward those quality of life goals that were his life and love.
