Does interference mean public or media bitching about exiting patrons of business establishments and/or taking photos/videos of the patrons drunkeness/impairment count in this ordinances scope?
My understanding is that it’s a way to make it a local offense if you’re under 21 and try to trick your way past a bouncer. Before this the police needed to go to state law, which has a more severe punishment. Also, if they’re charged under state law I think we have to share the fine with the state.
The way it reads to me is if you stand around a business and protest you are in violation. Example if a group of residents stood in front of any business in town and told patrons about behavior they deem wrong. It’s an attack on free speech. When you would go for a permit for your protest they would not tell you, you can only protest in a certain area so when you show up in front of the business you are in violation. Maybe Ken Pringle knows better what it means we should run it by him.
Remember slumlords run businesses. They have to pay the town for what essentially is a mercantile license. Would calling the police set you up for interfering with the landlord’s chaotic summer rental?
This ordinance will be usEd to circumvent state laws. The police will arrest and charge someone under state law and then offer them this ordinance as a downgrade and the borough keeps 100% of the fine. I’m sure the State would make them repeal the ordinance if they found out about it. It is the same thing as disorderly conduct under state law. Lawless Matt is trying all he can raise court revenue and to keep money from the state, of course Clueless Wilton follows in his footsteps. What a joke these towns and administrators have become….
I think / feel this is more to Dave’s comment in #2. The way I understand it is if a ticket is written as a state violation we have to split with the state (i don’t know the exact percentages – i.e. 80%state/20% stays local). However if it is a local ordnance, the split is the other way and in the town’s favor (i.e 20% state / 80% local).
I think it is just a way for towns to keep more of the money….
If a Belmar police officer who is patrolling Lake Como issues a ticket (speeding, parking, noise complaint, public urination, etc.), who gets the money for the violation. Belmar or Lake Como?
So if a Belmar cop writes a ticket in lake como and lake como is getting the $, shouldn’t it be a lake como ticket? Can the ticket be dismissed in court?
It’s not about the tickets, it’s not about the court revenue, it all about the Benjamin’s $$$. The only thing Belmar Police care about is make huge $ OT $ checks!…..duh
It’s about authorities assuming and exercising power: “additional regulation”. Pretty soon residents will be asked for “their papers” when out and about in Belmar and Lake Como. Deine Papiere, bitte.
We have a police chief that fits the role perfectly flower power. Town is in sad state of affairs despite a great weekend with lots of tourists and fun. Should have been a good weekend for businesses which is so lacking when compared to places like Asbury Park and Red Bank

Not sure offhand about regular news outlets but I’m sure their web pages have contact info.

In the original proposal it was Belmar but I think it got changed.
And the belmar cops try to write them as belmar tickets when they can.
