is this the same money the democrats saved us in 2018?
every year we get the same saving and the same story.
i’m tired of promises.
Finally, a showing of what the current Administration has done! These guys walked into a pile of sh#t (literally on our beaches)and they are working their way threw it. Lets not forget it was no easy task making Colleen go away. They deserve our support.Lets not fight over a few Polo shirts and Unite for this team.
High deceptive. $572k savings??? Over how many years, ten, twenty???? equal to about $25k a year. $211k savings in a one time permit backlog?? 4 vehicle sold??? Sure junk worth about $4k. and so on and so on.Q- What do you do for an encore next year?? A- Raise taxes another %10. Cut the budgets or print up some money.
And 3 years from now we’ll find out that these numbers are wrong, just like Doherty’s. Does anybody know who donated all this furniture ?
#1 that attachment from the Brennam (how it’s spelled on the flier) campaign only lists the amount of money ‘saved’ by not raising taxes in seven years. It doesn’t make any mention of how or by what means the taxes didn’t increase in that time.
We have to vote for someone folks. Vote for Bean for a watchdog on the dais and if you want to continue to expose the rotten politics of Doherty. Or vote for McK and Carv if you like what’s been happening and you want to continue to expose the rotten politics of Doherty. Or vote for McB and Russo if you’re not at all disturbed by two people with no discernible ability, and who appear to be rather gullible, and if you want the exposure of the rotten politics of Doherty to be swept under the rug.
Make a choice and pull the lever.
Good luck
“Laugh about it, shout about it, when you have to choose.
Any way you look at it, you lose”
-Paul Simon
#2 – Agree – I think the current administration really did walk into a big pile! Some changes have been made and will continue to be made. Hard to undo 7-8 years of underhanded trickery in less than a year. Lord knows the Democratic candidates don’t have a clue – they will just wait for their next directive from Geppetto.
ookookachoo #5….you are right on as i see it…..hope locals get out and vote with this scenario in mind..high turnout is in order
I say just vote for Mccracken. The two Dems are dopes. Bean is a trouble maker who will have no say. Carvelli a sleazy fence sitting Dem in disguise. I would never trust him.
Special Officers don’t cost anything if you don’t use them.
Donated furniture isn’t a savings if you don’t need to buy any.
DPW- Were there layoffs or was the seasonal help? Were the vehicles previously purchased by the town or military surplus?
Overtime: let’s wait and see those Police and DPW year end salaries??
Not buying into this flyer!
#9 Correct!!
No self aggrandizement candidate for me, thank you very much! For the greater good of our community please look ahead and vote for the team that will not go backward or stagnant in perpetual negativity. I’m sure I don’t need to remind all voters and property owners that we simply cannot afford to make that kind of mistake ever again. Vote McCracken and Carvelli to do the next right thing for all of us.
#9- You are correct. If you get a grant to hire seasonal help for say $15k and hire 8 kids this year as opposed to 15 kids last year, is that a DPW headcount reduction of 7.
And the grant didn’t cost you anything anyway. Don’t believe this propaganda, I thought Matt was gone???? Vote one vote- Jim Bean
#11 Amen
My disqualifier is anyone who supported Doherty. That man is the reason we are in this spot. That takes out 3 of them leaving only McCracken and Bean.
Republicans backing a Doherty supporter.
This town is a mess alright.
Why doesn’t Belmar go with nonpartisan elections because both parties are exactly the same. No matter who I vote for they all think alike.
Agree with #14. I liked when Jim Bean questioned Doherty. Contrary to other statements, he was never confrontational and never got mean or angry. Something that I’d also like to point out is that Bean was always right. I still remember when he questioned the gift cards- good stuff !
I’d like to see Beans’ voting record when he was on council
I will be going out soon to campaign for Jim Bean. Only a few days to go to election. Get out and campaign for those you like. Don’t just shoot your mouths off here without anyone knowing who you are.
#11 WRONG. Vote Bean and only Bean. At least we will get the truth. The other council person will probably be McCracken anyway.
#14 my disqualifier is a closed minded person like yourself.
do not think political party when you vote.vote for the person who is the best for Belmar. the only one who spoke up for the citizens of Belmar when he was on the council was Jim Bean and the Democrats beat him up.He is the only one who has Belmars main interests at heart and does not want to profit from his efforts.bullet vote Jim Bean.
(only vote for him)I have been around a long time and know the truth.
#16- Great idea. It will garner him more votes. I’m sure he’s voted NO more times than Mayor and Council combined. Not afraid to be an independent thinker. Look, whether you agree with him or not, he gets my vote for not just going along with the flow, as have all other puppets that have sat on that dais over the years. One vote- Jim Bean. Present M&C have set the course, im will assure we get there.
From 2014:
http://blog.commonsenseforbelmar.org/i-know-i-know-great-minds-think-alike/
Dave- thank you for reposting that. I recommend everyone check it out. Not so much for the voting records (that is interesting) but for the comments. There is a back and forth between Claire and Joy. It’s pretty fascinating to read. Claire is doing her ‘I’m an innocent in all this’ thing and Joy is pointing out Claire’s hypocrisy and her inability to admit when she’s made a mistake. The old post also brings back the feeling of abject horror a lot of us (not Claire for some incomprehensible reason) felt when Matt was running this town like it was his own personal campaign war chest/name recognition marketing machine/social media promotional tool. It reminds us all the dangers of having that narcissistic megalomaniac get his greedy fingers back into the till.
What ever you feel about Jim or McK or Carv, do not give Doherty a chance to get inside information about the ongoing investigations into his crimes.
Thanks, Dave, for re-posting the voting records and commentary of 2014. I think I held my own pretty well against criticism and complaints . The comments brought back memories of my representation and service to the community. To this very day, with no exaggeration, residents compliment and thank me for serving as councilwoman. Be mindful that I’ve been off the council for several years. Not bragging-just reacting/responding to # 23 . He/she found the exchange posted “pretty fascinating.” The word hypocrisy was used incorrectly. Move on, 23…you’ll be a happier, better person if you take me advice.
Had a good day campaigning for Jim yesterday. Very positive responses from everyone plus a lot of car beeps. Will go out again today. Also, it’s very interesting that so many people drive to the boardwalk and sit in their cars. Why not get out of the car and enjoy a great day like yesterday?
#24 Claire- You actually just proved my point. You were doing it then and your’re doing it now. Ignoring the truth isn’t the same as owning up to the truth. I have no doubt that you have people that come up to you and compliment you on your work as a council person. There are people in this town that still compliment Matt for being a great mayor. I am never surprised by the actions of those that disregard the truth in order to avoid the painful self realizations that would accompany such honest introspection. It’s a lot easier to lie to yourself. Human nature. Besides, you did many great things for this town through your civic work. Unfortunately, part of your time as a council person was marred by your blind support of an obvious crook. It’s the avoidance of owning up to that critical mistake that I’m referring to.
And you should know that I have worked for many years on my self awareness and the emotional difficulty it takes to admit mistakes. Not only to myself but also to those I love. And that work (it is work) has made my deeply happy. So thanks for the advice but I think it’s time for you to start that process. It is difficult but you will be surprised by the joy it will bring.
#25- That is a mystery. Especially those that sit in their vehicles with the engine running. Walk outside in the sun and smell the sea air. It’s beautiful.
#25 – The idling engines drive me nuts. I once saw two girls sit in their running car with air conditioning on for an hour. Maybe they were charging phones? I asked the special Police to ask them to turn off their cars and they said there’s no law about idling in public places. I’ve been meaning to request that a no idling law is enforced.
Running the Belmar 5 is hard because the police cars are idling. The police say it takes too long to power the electrical equipment inside. But I think if the police suddenly need their cars on they can simply do it.
The title of this post thread is “Belmar WAS Broken”.
It’s being mended – little by little.
Let’s stay the course.

Thanks Aileen. I’ll contact my Insurance Carrier with this information.
26-Thanks for your guidance, officious one. I’m so glad that your journey to find your true self has been a blessing for you. But I’m fine with my true self. That you paint me as such a wrong doer is offensive and stupid. “I’m doing it then , and I’m doing it now? “ You have appointed yourself as my judge and jury. I’m happy with who I am…I have no regrets about anything in my life. So you want me to fess up about my voting records as councilwoman. Won’t happen..no matter how many times you drone on with this line of foolishness. Admit that I’m wrong? I never perceived my actions as wrong doing. Stop focusing on trying to have me purify my soul with confessing to my performance as councilwoman. Im glad you found a better life with self-examinations. Im fine where I am in my life . I survived a devastating illness twice and have people in my life who love me. I tackle life face-on. My spirituality is in a great place. So now I have some advice for you…oh holier than thou one..”leave the gun. Take the cannolis.”
Aileen are you saying you don’t want me to idle my vehicle this winter so I can properly defrost my windows and safely drive to work without shivering.
#30 – That certainly was unusual advice to give. One question – when you were voting yes 100% of the time, did it ever cross your mind that the assorted lawsuits, petitions, & general outcries of mismanagement had any plausibility?
The voting records are interesting.Bean voted Yes more than 80% of the time during his time in office. Shows he supported ordinances and what was presented more often than not.
Aileen, no only does the idlying truck/car operators drive me up a wall, they cause me and others asthma to flare from their noxious. Suffocating fumes. It’s like hooking yourself up to a bus and the gasoline fueled leaf blowers are the worst.
Case in point: All Spring/summer long a bank owned property across the street from my home has a hired landscaper who tends the weeds/leaves and major Debris on the property 1 x per month. Each month the vehicle driver, on instructions from the tough, swaggering female property manager, leaves their 40 foot truck running in front of my home, often blocking my driveway. Needless to say, I’ve gotten into arguments telling him/her to turn the running motor off their truck for the 1/2 hour they are there. Actually I’ve opened the vehicle’s door and turned off the key one time when they couldn’t hear me, or chose not to, when begging them to turn it off. The last time they were here I told them I was reporting them to the police with the video I was shooting. Each time I verbally forced them to turn off they cursed me up and down, worse than the FU Tony visitors, like it was my fault they were spewing fumes. The actual fault was they have difficulty starting their decrepit truck once it’s turn off. I suppose they felt that I should turn off my ability to breath on an Ocean block in Belmar instead.
26-Part of my time as councilwoman was marred? Never happened. That is a perspective of a negative mind. #32- I voted on what was best for the town. None of my votes involved “assorted lawsuits, petitions or general outcries of mismanagement.” We made great progress as a community during my terms as councilwoman. Go back to what was voted on. You are whistling Dixie with no backup information. I was especially pleased as to how we came back after Hurricane Sandy. Other communities were contacting us as to how to proceed during that timeframe. Your accusations are without merit and damaging to the reputations of people who worked without sleep for days to assist all of our residents who were devastated during the Sandy period. You are the one with blinders because you are determined to be hurtful and negative. No legal actions were ever pursued during my terms of office. Why are you trying to destroy the reputations of those who worked diligently in the best interest of our community? So wrong and harmful.
#30. Ok, you got it. It seems like a waist of time trying to get you to understand that you blindly supported (and continue to support?) Matt Doherty. I never said a word about your voting record. But that seems to be a sore spot for you. I’m glad you are spiritually and physically well. Maybe you have admitted to yourself that Matt is a crook and that you made a mistake in trusting and supporting him. If that’s the case, that’s good.
I know you love that Godfather quote. I’ll leave you with one too: “you know the saddest thing about betrayal? It never comes from an enemy”. -Michael Corleone.
Give it some thought Claire.
# 31. No. She’s saying what we’re all seeing. People sitting in cars that are idling for hours. All seasons.
No one said a thing about warming up your car in the winter before getting in it to go to work. That’s totally different and often necessary. Just don’t pull up to the beach or strollos or any place like that and sit in your car with it running. It’s bad for asthma sufferers and it’s bad for the air.
36-Waist is part of your body-Waste is the word you were looking for. Your comments are meaningless. Homophones. Waist and waste. Get a grip on your language. “Give it some thought” from a person who doesn’t know the difference between waist and waste. Go back to third grade.
#38 – Throughout this blog – You win the crown as the queen of deflections.
#38 Like I said- Ok you got it. I was typing into my cellular device and didn’t notice the mistake. I made a mistake and I’m sorry.
See? Not so tough to admit a mistake. But I guess it is easier to focus on a small spelling error and then use that to invalidate a painful truth. The good news is that your disproportionate anger over the matter seems to indicate we’re finally getting somewhere. I hope you were more forgiving with your students. Anyway, give it some thought and stop being so homophonic. Don’t freak out, I know it’s not a real word.
I’ll leave you with one final quote:
‘The lady doth protest too much, methinks’
-Shakespeare’s Hamlet
Abnormal obsession with Claire’s “mistakes “. Seek professional help, #40. Bravo! You know Shakespeare. Unfortunately, it doesn’t fit Claire. She hasn’t protested. Oh, she apparently doesn’t think she has made mistakes. What is your aim? To wear her down so that she admits mistakes? Don’t think it will happen. You need to figure yourself out. Seek professional advice.
#41 Thank you for the advice? I think that’s what that was. My aim, like many people in this town, is in knowing how Claire feels about her support for Matt Doherty now that we all know, for a fact, what he did while in office. Is it none of our business? Technically, yes. But it sure would be great to know how someone, who so vehemently supported Matt, feels now that his misdeeds have been exposed. That’s all. Plus, Claire just happens to be the most notable supporter on this blog. I’m curious (not obsessed) mostly because she’ll gladly talk about anything BUT that particular subject. She seems to be the one obsessed with mistakes (mostly of the grammar and spelling variety, not so much the legal and political variety). You seem to be the one who’s a little confused. We do agree on one thing though- I also don’t think that admitting she made a mistake by supporting that crook will happen. Common ground. You and me. One step at a time.
Disagree 42.You are truly obsessed with this topic about Claire. Poor you. Get a purpose in life. If you know Claire isn’t going to respond, you admitted this, why do you keep it up? Sorry your life is so empty.
26-Claire’s time as councilwoman was never marred. If she ran for election today she’d win.
42-How many people are interested in Claire’s opinions? Who are they? Be interesting to have this information. You stated “ like many people in town.”
#43. You’re right. What is wrong with me? Trying to fill the void of my wasted life. Ive been ignoring my family, screwing up at work, not eating, stopped all my charitable activities, and I haven’t called my mother in months. I’ve been consumed by this one single thing. My obsession with Claire has turned me into a monster. A monster I don’t even recognize! Thank you. Thank you for showing me the way. You are a true American hero. I will humbly crawl back under the rock from whence I came. I am deeply sorry for offending you. Anyone who supported Matt Doherty was right to do so. I don’t know why it’s taken me this long to realize that. I am truly ashamed. Please don’t look at me.
#44 Maybe marred isn’t the right word. How about tainted? Does tainted work for you? Yea, and Russo and McBride might win. What’s your point? This town has no shortage of ill informed voters.
46-Although sarcastic, a very good and true self-assessment. Give it up already. In aiming to smear Claire, you come off as an obsessed individual with little or no other interests.
47-Tainted doesn’t work either. How about a change in your thinking. The following is appropriate: Outstanding councilwoman who made good decisions and gave unconditionally to the community in which she served. That’s much more accurate than wrongly tagging Claire’s time as tainted or marred. You are determined to destroy her reputation.
46-If you are on this blog while you’re at work, then you’re true to your own words. You are screwing up at work. Commenting on the blog while at work=screwing up.
#48. Not sarcastic. It is one hundred percent sincere. I’m ashamed and I ask for your forgiveness. I’ve spent almost a total 10 minutes typing posts asking Claire how she feels about being betrayed by Matt Doherty. That kind of obsession needs to stop. Again, I’m sorry. You’re right.
#49- “Besides, you did many great things for this town through your civic work. Unfortunately, part of your time as council person was marred by your blind support of an obvious crook”.
I get that you think what I wrote was ‘inappropriate’ but please tell me what in those statements is untrue. She did a lot of great things for this community. And she blindly supported a man that we know (not opinion) is a liar and a crook. You’re a friend so you are standing up for her and that’s great. My recommendation would be for you to go after the man that betrayed her kindness and loyalty for his own selfish needs. I don’t know why your wasting your time with me. Matt Doherty did the marring and the tainting. Any damage to her reputation was done by him. She’s not alone. He has done it to almost anyone that he can use to better his station. Stand up for your friend and go after him.
51-You never presented it like I was betrayed by Matt. You were berating me for supporting him. Trying to clean up your act?
#53 – Sooooo…. were you betrayed?
#53 Oh Claire- That is a word for word quote from post number 26 waaaay up towards the top of this thread. How is re-posting a word for word quote ‘trying to clean up my act’? Just curious how you feel about being betrayed by Doherty. That’s all. You won’t or can’t answer. I will assume that the great lengths you go to avoid the subject is an indication that you are not happy about it. If you confront him (have your pals confront him too), maybe it won’t be so hard for you to talk about. Good luck. Can’t wait to hear how it goes.
52-No, you are damaging my reputation.Using the word marred is wrong and harming my reputation. My family members are outraged and are seeking advice.
Kitchen knife rattling. Meatballs, anyone?
Move on, exchange pointless.
55-What are you talking about? 26 isn’t my post. Did you read it? You are extremely confused as you attempt to make me look stupid. No where other than post 53 was that phrase used.
Please….Stop this nonsense & just go out and vote!
My goodness. The word marred is as meaningless as this exchange. Like 57 says: it’s pointless. I guess I should seek advice about my reputation when you basically called me stupid for mistaking waste with waist?Thankfully, we still live in a society where people are allowed to express opinions about their elected officials and each other.
#58- #26 is MY post. I was quoting myself in response to you suggesting I was “cleaning up my act”. Oh my God who cares? I am done. I’m going to go vote. You had a flawless run as councilperson and Matt Doherty is a saint. Uncle!
61- This remark is Laughable-makes no sense. Hey, you started this with attempting to discredit me. Now you’re saying that this exchange has gone on too long. “Innocent in all this thing ” and “many people in town want to know” . I also think the word hypocrisy was used. You go with these remarks, then make like this conversation has gone on too long. I’m not supposed to react? I’ll go on as long as I choose to do so. You’ve had enough? You brought this on .Now you are getting huffy. Tough!
The question in #45 was never answered.
42 claimed the that “many people in town “want to hear about Claire’s opinion about Matt. How many people were there? Who are these individuals?
#62 What are you, the thought police now? Yes, I’m done. But if you have more to say, go ahead and say it. It’s a free country.
#63- to answer your questions.
1. Yes, according to years of comments on this blog- people would like to know Claire’s opinion of Matt.
2. Not sure how many but you can read the comments going back a few years and get an approximate head count.
2. You want names? That’s a little creepy.
42-Vehemently supported Matt? Could you get any more dramatic?
66 – Probably, yes. Passionately, Wholeheartedly, Breathlessly, etc etc.
So many adverbs. Which is your favorite?
63-Gee, The questions about me on this blog we’re infrequent. Probably mostly you. Creepy to want to have answers? If I met them at some point, per chance, I might ask, “What is it that you wish to know? “. Curious. Another word that is loaded with nastiness….creepy. If they want answers, how is that creepy?
#68. Sorry I don’t understand any of that. It’s a bit rambling. I think you meant ‘were’ not ‘we’re’. As the self appointed spelling/grammar sheriff, it’s weird you made that mistake. By your very own rules, that mistake invalidates your entire argument.
#63 asked ‘who are these individuals?’. That means they want people’s names. I don’t care what you think, that is not only creepy, it’s scary.
Sen Joseph McCarthy also wanted to know ‘who are these individuals’.
67-Here is an adjective to describe you: absurd.
70- Aaaahhh I’m sorry. We were looking for an adverb. An adjective describes a noun and an adverb describes a verb. But we have some consolation prizes for you. Thanks for playing. You’ve been great.
71-I know the difference between adverbs and adjectives. No need for an explanation. I prefer an adjective to describe you-absurd.
#72- Thank you, I take that as a high compliment. Please work on your were and we’re though.
Well we may never know what you think of Matt Doherty but it appears we know what a majority of the Belmar voters think of him. His lies and schemes and dark north Jersey money lost in the end. All is right in the world. Have a great day.
73-It certainly is a new day! Truth be known, although I’m a dedicated Democrat, have great respect for Mark Walsifer. I got to know him when we both served as board of education members. Mark served for nearly twenty years. Always with the best interest of the students in mind. What dedication! I don’t know Mr. McCracken or Mr. Carvelli. But Mayor Mark is tops! I’m
Proud of our Dem candidates-they worked hard-always with dignity and in an honorable fashion.
Best of luck to you as you improve your language skills as time rolls along!
#74 thank you Claire. Yes, I agree, Mark is a great guy and a terrific mayor. You’re right-the two women candidates certainly worked hard. It’s a shame that they didn’t have anything to say. There’s always next time.
Best of luck to you as well as you also continue to work on language skills with the difference between contractions and past tense verbs. What’s life about if we’re not always improving. This has been both fun and enlightening for me.
Perhaps Claire can start attending Mayor and Council meetings again and give her input on how to make the borough a better place, and bring the two former Dem candidates along as well. I think Jim Bean would do well as a critical and helpful commenter from the audience. Who knows, if done tactfully, there may be some meeting of the minds and possible healing of relationships.
Oh Snap!
So, what’s better, skulking off into a corner and being bitter or cooperating to make party politics less divisive?
Will the two former Dem candidates be able (allowed) to speak their own minds now? Have they cut the strings?
Thank you #76! A meeting of the minds is a great suggestion!
#78 – The only [divisiveness] between the parties is they want to get their own cronies into positions where they can do lousy things to the citizenry. Otherwise, there ain’t a dimes worth of difference between them.
#81 What you say is relevant, but I was thinking of what Magovern said in the past, regarding the Dems winning, something like, “We won, you didn’t.” Us and them attitude.
#82 Thats right. McGovern did say that. Let’s do whatever we can to not be like McGovern or Doherty. Let’s begin process of nonpartisan elections. Anyone against it in this town has an agenda.
