How many liquor stores and restaurants are allowed in each municipality?

The number of licenses to sell alcohol for consumption on a licensed premises (restaurants and bars) and to sell alcohol for off premise consumption (packaged goods) within a municipality is determined based upon the population. A municipality may issue one consumption license for every 3,000 of its population. As to distribution licenses, which allow the sale of alcohol for off premise consumption, a municipality may issue one license for every 7,500 of its population. A municipality is allowed to ban all sales of alcohol within its borders if it so desires.

The existing licenses in Belmar are grandfathered in and the town has to recognize the rights of the companies that own them to use them.

Chefs has now benefitted from not one which I believe was a seasonal permit but now TWO free permits to sell alcohol and circumvent the liqour license process of obtaining one The rent vs income and ability to sell alcohol in a building and pier environment that will hold close to a 1000 people and make millions of dollars at the expense of quality of life and at the expense of other businesses now bowing to the almighty can do no wrong chefs trifecta of places is beyond wrong. Proof in the pudding. If the mayor wasn’t in bed with them and he would do something about the noise and the elements of the eighth ave and marina issues that have just started. We all complain but how many people actually took the time to complain to the abc to stand up for what’s right. That’s what has to be done
