Imagine a town had a female mayor. (Of course many of the towns in the area have, or have had female mayors. Even Belmar.) Now imagine that the husband of one of these mayors had a lobbying/public relations firm and was suspected of taking advantage of his wife’s political influence in order to win government contracts for his clients. Would anyone be saying oh, leave husbands out of it, you’re picking on him just because his wife is mayor, he’s just trying to raise his kids. Of course not. The whole thing would sound ridiculous.
Remember Jeanine Pirro? She was on a fast track to become U.S. Senator from New York until her husband Albert Pirro’s shady business dealings were exposed. I don’t recall any tears being shed for poor, defenseless Albert. The revelations derailed Jeanine’s political career and now she’s the host of some Fox News show I never watch.
You see Belmar’s current batch of Democrats want to have it both ways. They all talk about powerful women, and anything a man can do a woman can do, and all that. But the minute they believe they can get some political advantage by portraying women as fragile, delicate, helpless little creatures that need to be protected and nurtured and insulated from all the mean stuff out here in the world, they will turn on a dime and do exactly that. It’s total hypocrisy and it’s a smear against anyone who criticizes someone they want to protect. This tactic should be rejected. It’s only being used to try to intimidate those who are seeking answers.
I believe that I am a true feminist and I’m sure that Ken Pringle believes he is one too. I believe, and I believe that our former mayor believes, that women have equal rights under law, that women have equal protections under law, and that women be held just as accountable for their actions as men are.

Man or Woman …. it makes no difference …. if you play with the bull …. you get the horns.
I don’t know most of the people I heard from who agree with my letter-referenced in my last posting-so I don’t know if they were Democrats or Republicans-some could have been unaffiliated-and cerrtainly it wasn’t my intent to portray women as fragile-I just conveyed what I’ve been hearing-even before my letter went out-granted, that you don’t go after a man’s wife could be thinking from a past generation…..but it’s still out there-believe me…some comments I’ve received also convey that the opposition has gone after Matt’s family-I guess that they think a man and his wife create a family notion-…just wanted to respond to your posting……
I maybe taking giant leap but I’m guessing that Claire hasn’t read the court filing that clearly shows that the mayors wife involvement with business of running Belmar even if it at arms length. I’m also guessing that this is yet another frivolous law suit and unlike the past frivolous law suits our Mayor will be vindicated. Its a shame when the towns people have to go to court just to keep its elected official honest. On the plus side I do like the new campaign T Shirts.
Oh go teach, oops I mean preach, our BS somewhere else!
Guest-Typical-I can’t defend my position-your post is weak, if not a nonsense post-
our BS? Are you admitting to your nonsense?B-Glad you like the shirts!
Maggie Moran is a politically and financially driven player, period. Her dealings are questionable at best, created a clear conflict of interest with the mayor at a minimum, and potentially illegal. We will see. There is no attack, just publication of her orchestrated emails for her company to profit by Sandy victims. Claire for you to whine about her as if she was a victim shows your lack of critical thought. Reverse the situation with the opposition side doing the same as Ms. Moran. You would by championing the attack. And it really would be an attack based on your past actions regarding opposition positions. Mostly my recall of you is an arrogant rude woman at the last debate in which you participated. That night I realized what an unkind person you are and stopped considering anything you said to be of any value.
This is a distraction. One month prior to the election, a healthy exchange regarding whether the mayor and his administration acted for the “people of Belmar” in most of his duties seems more appropriate.
The above mentioned affair is now in the court of law. NJ municipal Conflict of interest law uses the term “spouse” and in conjunction with other members of the municipal officer’s immediate family. For the past several weeks Claire and others use the word “wife”. Especially now with same sex marriages involving elected and appointed officers wife is totally meaningless because it is by definition gender specific.
This silly gender distraction and for once, I agree with Bill Mahr last week when he contrasted “the war on women” with the brutal realities of women not living in the U.S.. It is time for the Debbie Wasserman Shultz of this country to call out the aweful
monstrous treatment of women elsewhere.
Mayor, what have you done for the residents, to reduce rentals, encourage year around home ownership. Why do you encourage more tourism when We can not Ride a bike in our beautiful town without worrying about getting hit by someone who has been hunting for a parking spot for 30 mins.
