Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon (R-13) comments about the $7 million bond defeat and the mayoral race in PolitickerNJ last month:
“People will vote overwhelmingly against a ballot question, but vote for the person who proposed it.” …….. “The Belmar Republicans are going to have to make their case. The voters could decide that the pavilion issue is over and they’ve made their point. Whether they will decide that Matt Doherty has to pay a bigger price or not is the question. It’s not something anyone should take for granted.”
Well maybe a lot of people do feel that way, but if they do they are fools. The referendum defeat didn’t teach Doherty anything. He’s still fighting to give an overwhelming bidding advantage to construction firms that pay tribute to LIUNA. (We’ll see what his “compromise” is Wednesday night I guess.) And aside from the eventual construction of the pavilions there are some other very large projects being planned with that expensive labor such as the new Lake Como outflow system (over $6 million) and a Maclearie Park re-do ($7 million?) Pretty much all of it will be done with borrowed money and little, if any, financial oversight.
I don’t know about the others, but I, for one, am getting tired of fighting all this and I’m certainly not going to spend the next four years doing it.

I ran out of coffee this morning, made a walk up to 7/11 on ocean ave got some. I came back home a different way, the pizza place next to the gym is an eyesore, hundreds of cig butts everywhere, paper plates, looks like the owner could care less. Belmar has a total lack of code enforcement.
Next time walk to the Dunkin Doughnuts at 16th & Ocean – that place is soooo much worse….it is gross.
Why not do 2 things. Organize a cleanup with friends, probably could get it cleaned up in minutes. Also tell the business around that they should participate do video and if they don’t post it. If you don’t like these ideas come up with one of your own. Lead by example.
