I wish all of the people that approve this garbage would be forced to spend a 4th of July weekend here and then vote.
They would then know what the true story is and understand how much more can be tolerated in a town a mile square.

    Admin,

Your site was shown to me by a colleague today. To tell you the truth – I don’t know how you sleep at night. I went through a few posts & I was sickened by degrading comments and the overall negativity. You all complain so much, but what are you gaining by acting like a bunch of bully’s? You have the privilege of residing in a beautiful, upbeat, & happy beach town community! You could write endlessly on all of the great things Belmar has to offer – Yet you choose to ridicule & slander our Mayor, our Council, our local businesses, etc. .

If you hate Belmar so much then you should move – because there are thousands upon thousands of people that would move to our Unique shore town in an heartbeat.

Hey there Sour Grapes – I love Belmar too. I like to check into this site because Dave posts information that we can’t obtain from the town web site. Sure, so many of the posts are mean spirited, and it’s hard not to scroll down and read them. But it’s worth checking in when there’s an issue that’s being ignored. One (of many) examples is our pay to play laws. They have been preserved because of this site. I don’t get to the meetings often and when I do, questions don’t get answered. Dave posted the old pay to play ordinance and highlighted the changes so we could decide whether we liked the old one or the new one. We begged the council not to change it but they did. We sent a petition but they tried to ignore it. Only after a judge ordered them to honor it did we get a say. Unfortunately, they let it go to a referendum which cost us money. It was a landslide vote to keep the original.

There are many upbeat, unique people in this town who make it great. They are feeling shut out and not heard. So many Democrats like myself have changed their mind about the leadership. This isn’t based on negative comments on this site. Most of the folks I’m thinking of don’t visit this site. They (and I) want to live in a happy beach town community that offers bars and restaurants, but preserves the seasonal nightlife as is, rather than catering to a couple bars that have clout (money) to extend their liquor licenses. They want to make sure that the new development will pay their fair share of school taxes and not take advantage of skipping that (under the town’s redevelopment rules). I don’t want to move. I’d rather speak up for the town I love. Your best bet is to try – hard as it is – to look at Dave’s posts only. You may only agree with 10%, but it’s an important 10% and you won’t get it elsewhere. Hey, by the way Dave, why have the borough workers been finishing the Taylor pavilion? I didn’t remember if that was part of the plan.

    Hi Aileen,
Actually you may recall that after the bids came in the Borough announced that they would act as their own contractor and build it themselves. I believe this was because…and I wrote about it and went through the numbers but I don’t have time right now to look for that post…our engineers underestimated how much the bids would be for and so we didn’t bond enough to hire anybody. Then Epic proposed some cost efficiencies, I forget offhand the term they used for it. and so we hired Epic. Doing a lot of the work ourselves was probably part of the deal.

BTW, attributing things said by commenters to me is one of the dishonest tactics critics of this blog use.

Maybe Epic hired the DPW employees Aileen?

Many questions arise from your question. My concern is the potential of misuse of Beach Utility Trust fund monies being used for the DPW employees working on the Pavilions and the associated costs, insurance, pension contributions, etc

With the new year and new council starting soon, the question of why the DPW guys are working on the pavilions will be a great one at meetings.

I find it interesting that in today Coast Star that the Mayor Sea Girt is more concern for the year round community and effects that the extended season would have on the community. #11 Hi, Claire Clone. Almost as good as the original!

I think the DPW guys are working on the project so it won’t look as overpriced as it will be and the money paid to them can be hidden somewhere, like the Buy A Board “donations”.

There we go again shamefully referencing the forever ending costs associated withe the EPIC building contract award. We will be paying pension benefits and workers compensation to finish the pavilions. What a scam! Here comes another lawsuit by the other bidders who weren’t privy to the insider deals?

#21 And overtime as well. I would guess that the fix was in for Epic before the bidding even started. Awarding the contract to the high bidder? How about Magovern’s concern about using union labor to ensure high quality construction? A bunch of baloney. Who pays? The taxpayers of Belmar, one way or another. I hope the borough insures this building, as the Taylor Pavilion that the storm destroyed was not insured.

#11 Sour Grapes-I truly feel that some people are not tuned into the air waves. It is impossible to prove that
our town is upbeat and happy when the
Voters and Tax payers are not happy and upbeat. If they were the votes in the last election would have been as they usually were and they would not be going to Borough meetings to ask or give an opinion and have it happen. The
Mayor should not shut the voices in town down all people cannot be right and wrong all the time. There was a time when we had more families than
summer rentals. They keep telling us we have less rentals but no one gives the numbers on the Police calls or the First Aid calls. If they did all of the happy upbeat people would be sad. That is just a small part of what is happening in this 1 mile square town.
There is more but the list is to long to to print here. More people should read what is printed here. Admin does not speak until he knows what he is saying and that is why we believe what
he prints is the truth. More people should take time to read investigate ask questions get proof then speak the
    Truth.

There is no transparency in current Belmar government: everything has a spin. Silencing the valid and poignant voices of some is a huge blunder. Wait and see – the spinmeisters will fall into their own nets eventually. Ego and ambition are blinding forces.

If the DPW was going to work on the Pavilions from the get go why didn’t we just buuld a raised duplicate of what we had in the first place? We all know what happened to the McMansion over building craze and the unpredictable weather conditions that accompany global warming this century.

What is the upkeep and insurance tab for the 5th Avenue Pavilion? Will we know who is writing the policies and, are they only getting bids from Middlesex County?
