For the most part, I think there are three things that are killing us financially. You can take them in any order. The first (seldom acknowledged) is the vast population in the state on welfare (many/most of them have never worked, do not work now and never will work in their lives). But they can vote and elect legislators who are solely devoted to getting free stuff for their constituents who pay no taxes.

Secondly is the group who do non-productive work, mostly people whose pay comes from tax dollars. Many times when these people go on pension they leave the state and their pension is sent out of our state, and of course they pay no taxes here anymore.
———————————–
Thirdly, business is leaving our state like crazy to get away from our anti-business (of course, no businesses locate here as well) atmosphere brought about by the first two parts of this post (the constant need for more and more tax dollars).
#3 your points are exactly on target particularly your first point. Add to that being a sanctuary state. Yikes! We are in deep trouble – on the brink of being a full on welfare state! So discouraging as someone born and raised in NJ for over 60 years.
Doherty lied to the Public for years touting no new taxes because he was dealing from the bottom of the deck on the Sandy Recovery pilfering from the Beach Utility Fund and FEMA, giving sweetheart deals to Ashbritt, Gerrard and Conte.
Just a shame that we are all holding the bag for his wanton misuse of government. Murphy out him in charge of the CRDA? Big mistake. There go 30 million????
The theft “problem” that Belmar is experiencing with the Sandy Recovery today lays all at the feet of the above “mastermind” politician who was a legislative aide to Buono and a lackey for Maggie’s boss Corzine
