Belmar PD should call MONOC for Lake Como EMS. Belmar First Aid is dedicated volunteers that don’t need more work.

First it was the diminished Police services you now receive with the political merger. Now it’s reduced Public Safety concerns when you, a taxpaying, law abiding citizen will need to wait for oxygen as the ambulance is tied up with an intoxicated under aged renter in Lake Como. If the residents of Lake Como can’t bother to volunteer their time to better their community, why should we suffer. The bigger question is: What value to you place on your life??

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 – Bravo, Belmar does not need any more of Lake Como’s problems. Regarding first aid, let Lake Como hire a professional EMS crew to pick-up the drunks that consume most of their calls to service. Belmar has enough problems keeping up with the D’Jais drunks, and they are a paid service.

    They still are, Admin…

Technically Belmar, Lake Como (aka South Belmar) are still Wall TWP as far as geography is concerned. I remember people who lived in South Belmar use to be able to go to West Belmar Grammar School also.

Wall TWP should just take over both towns or at least Lake Como & call it a day.

You have to pay Monmouth County library a fee for acard if you live in a town that has a private library. You can however use the beautiful, we’ll stocked, professional, certified reference library staff in Wall, Shrewsbury, etc.

Belmar doesn’t participate in the county system because years ago there was a man on the Library board who felt the fee charged by the county was out of line and would not have the library involved with it. Check the prices that come with belonging to the different library’s. Neptunes fee is $10.- try the other towns our town included.
Wall is very high try to find out why the fees vary. The man that didn’t feel it was a good thing for Belmar was right. The man who chose the better way
    was Frank Magovern.

First a clarification – LC has been an independent municipality since 1924 and yes, like Belmar, LC was once a part of sprawling Wall Twp. Many of “us” (we have an Element in LC, too) agree we should merge w/another town, but that process is a lot more complicated than people realize. But to address the fire protection issue: LC’s population is less than half Belmar’s. Over the years, more seasonal houses have become year round homes, and more recently, formerly year round homes have become vacation homes – either rented out seasonally or occupied part-time – sound familiar? Soaring property values make it a difficult fit for young families; two incomes is the norm. With a dwindling and aging invested population, where do you find enough vounteers to support a reliable FD and FA? FYI, 5 years ago we were very close to an agreement with Wall, but at the last minute, our former mayor put the kibosh on it in a cringe-worthy scene during a council meeting. Yup, we have lots of bars/drunks, etc., but we also have a large elderly population; many of my neighbors, unfortunately, rely on a conscientious first aid. My point: Cut us some slack, dudes!

I am also wondering how the pending Net Neutrality change would impact internet fees charged to schools, libraries, towns etc….

#’s 9,10,11,&12 are all on point. Belmar’s Library structure is as it should be. It does, and is however ever changing in today’s influx of online books and other technical advances. The Libraries I knew growing up are in reality a thing of the past and remaining in control of our own Library will allow Belmar to adjust to the times more efficiently if well directed.

#12. All libraries are not obsolete at
this point. The Belmar library is very active with many programs that bring the people to the library. There is a floor below the main floor that has had many programs including music, singers CHINESE New Years. Irish bands, exercise
classes. Games, Mah Jong lessons and many people enjoying the events. I am sure there are things I have missed but the Belmar Library is very much alive.
The girls that work there are helpful and it is a very pleasant place to go.
I did forget the Children’s programs.
They are many and enjoyed by all.

#20… A Library is a building that contains books, periodicals and sometimes films for people to read or borrow. On the internet I can access a million times the amount of information compared to what is stored in the Belmar library. Therefore libraries are obsolete. What you are describing are activities that could take place at a towns community center. Times are changing with technology, why keep supporting an obsolete institution. Change with the times or get left behind.

closing of the South Belmar Firehouse and First Aid Squad by the Lake Como Council
It has come to my attention at the last council meeting in Lake Como, council has decided to close the South Belmar Firehouse (after 93 years) and First Aid Squad (after 79 years) in town and go to Belmar.

This is a major concern for all taxpayers because I believe our homeowners insurance will go up now that the firehouse in town has been closed and our insurance rates will go up immediately.

The second problem is closing the South Belmar First Aid Squad in town, if Belmar is unable to respond then I believe Avon will have to come which is further away and cause great delay.

I question what the cost to the Lake Como Residents is now and what it will be? I also question what it will cost us in the future since the Police service contract has gone up $425,000.00. From $750,000.00 to $1,175,000.00.

If you wish to voice your concerns please come to the next council meeting on December 19, 2017 at 7:30 PM
