CFO Pick Being Kept Secret From The Public?

Or have they not decided yet?

I can tell you I don’t think I’ve ever seen them publish a resolution making an appointment without naming the appointee. If they have made their decision and are waiting for the meeting to spring it on us that would be very un-transparent and unfair to members of the public who will be given no opportunity to prepare for the public comments session on it.

Here’s the rest of Tuesday’s agenda.

  2. I have no doubt that dopey McGovern and Nicolay will do this to give the residents a final “F U” for not electing them. Let’s just hope Walsifer has a plan to undo this mess.

I’ve heard from multiple sources that Colleen is confident she’s getting the CFO position. That can only mean that Mayor Magovern and at least 2 members of the Council (Nicolay and Brennan, I would guess) have told her they intend to vote for her. Given the blank appointment resolution, the purpose for the Exec Session on the agenda must be to allow the full Council to discuss this privately. If so, it should be held AFTER the public has an opportunity to say why Colleen Connolly is unqualified for the position. I intend to be there to put on the record several examples — with supporting transcripts and other documents — demonstrating why Connolly lacks the basic level of honesty and trustworthiness that Belmar residents and taxpayers deserve in their CFO.

They don’t intend to go back to one position for CFO/Biz Admin? Didn’t Colleen’s position only come up under Doherty’s reign?

Even though I’m not well at this time I will be there on November 28, 2018.

Everyone, in a non-partisan manner, should attend this meeting. Please publicly express to the Council your position as to their possible, inappropriate selection of Colleen as CFO.

She is probably the main reason the Democrats lost the election. Don’t they understand that? Maybe this is their parting gift.

@ Aileen — Except for the early 90’s when Charlie Ormsbee was Clerk/CFO and Administrator, the positions were separate until the last few years of my tenure, when Robbin Kirk, who had been the CFO became the Administrator. It saved money, but it was a heavy workload for one person, even though Robbin had a deputy CFO for a time. Matt split the positions when he took office so he could hire a friend as Administrator. Colleen was hired as a consultant to help him do the job, and she later took it over from him. The positions are split in most municipalities.

It’s a real shame that Tom Brennan and Jen Nicolay can’t and won’t do the right thing, and vote against Colleen getting the position. How can they not care about the town and their tax dollars??

@2 Unlike Borough Administrators who can be removed at any time by a 4-1 vote of Mayor and Council, CFO’s receive a 4 year appointment (starting on the 1st day of the year in which they’re appointed). So, absent just cause for firing her, we will be stuck with her until 12/31/2022 if she gets 3 votes on Tuesday night.

@11 I’m hopeful Tom Brennan and Mark Levis can be persuaded to do the right thing, and let Belmar move forward with an experienced CFO who will bring a fresh set of eyes to our financial challenges. But there’s only one way to find out. If they’re still not willing to listen after the message that voters sent on Nov 6, I’m afraid it will be a very long time before a Democrat is elected again in Belmar.

@12 No, but we may be able to petition to change the salary ordinance. Colleen should not be paid anything remotely close to the salary Robbin Kirk received after more than two decades of experience as a CFO.

This is exactly why the voters of Belmar chose to go in a new direction. If Brian McGovern really cared about Belmar more than his own ego he would not be pushing this. Talk about transparency? Or should I say lack of! Does he not understand this Is why he was voted out? As a resident I’d like to know how many applications we received and the qualifications of applicants. After all Brian at a meeting said he is not smart enough to make those decisions. This appointment should be done by the new administration. And voted on by the new council. Not sold in at the 11th hour I believe it cost Belmar tax payers 5000 to hire a consultant. How about seeing their results?
If Collen Connolly’s name is put forth it will be a disaster for Belmar. Not to mention prove once again how under handed the outgoing administration is.

Actually, a point of history is that Matt split it Ken when he hired Bill Young as Business Manager. Colleen was brought in as watch dog and anticipated replacement. Don’t want to forget Young’s incredible contributions early on to the fiasco known as the Doherty years.

Katrina, I forgot to mention that I also asked for any emails pertaining to the job posting, and I know that 11 resumes were submitted, and Mark Walsifer chose the 3 most experienced applicants to be interviewed. I requested and received this information before Mark was elected Mayor.

The Mayor and Jen lost the election in large part because of the voters opinion about Colleen. They know this (maybe Brian doesnt but Jen definitely does). Any vote for Colleen for the position of CFO would be done out of spite. A slap in the face to the majority of citizens of Belmar. I’m certain that Brian and Jen told Colleen that she is a shoe-in. Hopefully Tom grows a spine and Mark Levis votes his conscious. A three against two vote against Colleen should be the outcome.

I am also looking forward to Ken Pringle giving his summation of facts why she shouldnt get the position. It should be very interesting. Bring the popcorn!

I hope that they are either reading these comments or at least being told that no residents want her. Why she would even want to stay knowing she is so hated? Wonder if she plans on attending the meeting. If she doesn’t it’s because she really knows how hated she is and that alone should speak volumes to the nitwits that would vote her as CFO
