Common Sense Gives Equal Time

Well maybe not quite “equal” but anyway here is a statement from a Democratic party spokesperson:

I what everyone to see who Tom Burke was before he became a member of the planning board. VOTE FOR DAVE SCHNECK VOTE NO
Submitted by TOM BURKE last year:

Chances are that if you are reading this you know the issues regarding the Belmar election scheduled for Aug. 19. Here I will hopefully make a case for that decision to be a “No” vote on the issue of approving the $7,000,000 for the building of pavilions adjacent to the boardwalk at Tenth and Fifth avenues.

The vote is not whether to have pavilions; it is a vote on whether the amount our administration wants to spend is too high of a cost— To be sure most want the pavilions, the issue is cost.

Unfortunately, the administration headed by Mayor Doherty chose to proceed in presentation of this issue despite an objection via petition from Belmar voters. The Mayor has created a conundrum by not listening to his constituents earlier on in the planning and review stages of the project. This apparent refusal to compromise in resolving the issues has led to this unfortunate delay in the rebuilding of the iconic Taylor Pavilion, and the new, much needed, Tenth Avenue pavilion.

This is truly an adverse circumstance. In January or February of this year I had a letter to the editor of The Coast Star suggesting that this issue would become a major campaign issue. If you think it is not political, take a look at the letter most residents or property owners received a few weeks ago from the mayor.

I believe the letter starts off by saying vote “Yes,” and ends with a disclaimer saying it was paid for by, “Doherty for Mayor.” Now if you still think it is not a political issue, don’t read any further.

The Mayor’s letter makes no mention of the $7,000,000 cost. Hmmmmm, voodoo accounting?

The facts of cost are as follows: I believe that FEMA [the Federal Emergency Management Agency] has determined that we can re-rebuild the pavilions to modern construction standards for about $3.7 million dollars, according to FEMA Project worksheets. I also believe that we have about $500,000 available through insurance payments for our loss.

So the question begs asking, why are we letting a contract to Epic Contraction company that will be paid against the $7,000,000 bond that the Administration approved? You decide: Why are the Mayor and the Democrat administration insisting on the approval of the $7,000,000 via “Yes” vote on Aug. 19?

I ask you to think about this carefully in making your decision. Is there connection that ties Epic to political contributions, or to consulting firms familiar to the Mayor? What possible reason can there be to spend $7,000,000 when I believe that we can get the whole thing done for about $3,000,000 less? You decide if this makes sense. And, if you think, as the Mayor suggested in a document that he handed out to residents during a council meeting, that this is only going to cost you as a homeowner 67 cents a month for 20 years, then please call me about buying a share in the Brooklyn Bridge.

This is a blog. There might be some spirited comments. The Belmar Democratic Committee represents a political party. They should be ashamed of their nasty campaign. While pointing fingers it is the Democrats that are in the gutter. They care, I think not. They have an agenda. It is the regular people that live and pay taxes here that care. We care about being able to continue to live in Belmar a town we love but are concerned about real estate taxe increases and municipal debt. Vote No on the overpriced pavilion that will cost taxpayers 3.9 million and vote for Dave Schneck the only trustworthy candidate.

No one is stopping them from building a pavilion. If they want a pavilion so badly they can go ahead and build it, just not with $4 million of OUR money.

Buy-a-Board and Home-by-Summer were both big successes, right? So I suggest the bond-lovers create a Build-a-Pavilion fund. With the mayor’s hundreds of fans and outfits like D’Jais, Epic, Chefs and LIUNA chipping in it should be pretty easy to raise the money they say they need.

This could all be part of their plan. Drum up just enough discontent and the fools will tell them to build it on their own. Clever rabbit. Another scheme foisted on the good people.

The post by the Dem committee infers that all those opposing, all those unstable folks are registered Republicans. Stupid and laughable. They know very well that even registered Democrats have left the plantation. “They will never be my master”. There wasn’t even a slave revolt we all just moved away from their nonsense. They reformed one, Tom Burke, and now they parade him around as their token. They wouldn’t be caught dead voting for him and don’t have too he will comply like a good slave no matter what.

Ken Pringle was born and raised in the town and still resides here with his family. He was Mayor for 20 years and never did anything to hurt the town. This mayor has a huge part of the Business district not paying taxes their assessments went down and ours ours went up. The seafood festival has been a threat for many years has he done anything to control it? No he went out of his way to make it bigger. It is a threat to the residents and their property. He hasn’t raised taxes in 5 yrs. just keeps increasing the debt. We Could on but the bottom line is if you want to do something about it. Vote No!
