I am glad that Brian Magovern stood up and not only stated why he was against the ordinance to double parking fees on Ocean but then voted no. What I can’t understand is how voters don’t confront the likes of Councilwoman Keown Blackburn who opposed and voted Yes. That is so unacceptable. I have more respect for Councilwoman Nicolay who was in favor and voted that way. Shame on unprincipaled and shifty officials.

1 Paying Attention Welcome to Belmar. I guess you were not around for the Pavilion fiasco.

This is getting a lot of media coverage. Heard it on TV while at doctor’s office today.

Kudos to McGovern for standing up for the middle class. Parking fees are too high and may stop families from visiting the beach.

Separate the 10th ave safety building and bond separately and build it! Realize cost efficiencies with the other 2 pavilions. Or don’t build the other 2 at all.

I’m slow to embrace the proposed “Public Safety Pavilion” because of a major design flaw …. the entrance for first aid would be 5 feet above the boardwalk and only accessed by stairs or ramps …. rightfully, all hospitals have emergency room entrance at grade level to facilitate access for the sick or injured …
Yes, we do need public safety facilities at the beachfront …. but …. an elevated pavilion is not a smart solution. An air conditioned modular facility at the boardwalk elevation, with ambulance docking, makes more sense and cost a lot less ….

#5 Eugene I agree with you but it will never happen. I guarantee they are scheming to try to figure a way to build what THEY want using their Union buddies and companies to spend the most amount of money for the least efficient structures.

Can’t the town just buy the same air conditioned orange containers, that the tshirt shop has? Why do we need to spend millions on a Taj Mahal for town employees to store thier wares? We need a snack stand near 2nd ave beach.

#8 Rea sorry the democrats don’t work that way they don’t want to do the right thing they have to make sure they spend more so their union supporters get in on the action and the companies that donated. Democrats = TAX & SPEND that’s what they do, they don’t care about the taxpayer just themselves!

Rea, they put snack stands in the south end of town, not the north! This way all the rift raft stays south

Jeez, so long since the hurricane and the boardwalk still doesn’t have real shops and the pavilions are still gone.

Other towns have put Belmar to shame. Time to speed up the rebuilding process.

#11 They wanted to rebuild using their union buddies and companies that supported them or relatives, thankfully that fiasco was stopped by a Judge, however the town Geniuses wasted Tax Payer money with the plans and consulting fees that cannot be recouped. Its a shame there is no Municipal Government Malpractice law, we could sue them and make them pay for their malfeasance!

It looks like the mayor is “punishing” the town now by stalling or not acting on the boardwalk projects (who knows what he is doing behind the scenes, though) because he did not get his way on the bond issue. Go stand in the corner now, bad bad boys and girls. Enjoy the gorgeous unobstructed ocean view while you can before the beachfront turns into a playground. And wasting nearly a million dollars is not a “good deal” no matter how you spin it.

If Hillary wins i am going to New Zealand, NH isn’t going to cut it.

Why would anyone vote for Hillary? She voted for the Iraq war, so her judgment is flawed.

The Dems need a stronger candidate.

Here’s the scoop on Hillary’s election possibilities. If she makes it through the campaign, that’s the primary and election, she’ll win. But that’s a big “IF.” There is something wrong with her. She’s ill in some way or other. But that’s been covered up very well up till now. But it’ll be hard to cover up (not impossible) if she collapses while campaigning in public and has to be hospitalized.
The reason I say that is our younger people will overwhelmingly vote for her just because they’re not very smart and are easily stampeded and the minorities will just automatically vote Democratic.
    Done deal.

Unfortunately, the only hope of her not winning in my view is if she dies. But then if she’s only bit dedish, it could still be pulled off with the mentality of the overall voters. That would be quite an inauguration parade with her propped up there on the reviewing stand. I could see Matt and our town council there applauding like crazy. Of course, no one would bring up the small point of her being a corpse. At least until all the parties are over with anyway.

Tom please don’t be so pessimistic, if the Republicans can get a great candidate not like Romney who I believe was a ringer, and get a VP who is a woman and black I don’t want to say her name don’t want to jinx the idea they have a very good chance.
