So, our new councilman doesn’t present himself wearing jacket, shirt and tie. What’s up with that?
Who created the ordinance stating that hotels and boarding houses can only house residents for 30 days?
Many people living in these sites have severe health problems, are in a life transition, or suffer from poverty.
Why throw them out of town? Is Belmar elitist with no concern for people in crisis?
Sad
Mayor Matt Doherty and the Democrat council is pushing the social work out of Belmar and into the county hands. Now they are forcing the poor and underprivileged out of Belmar with the 30 day rule. Why does Matt Doherty and the Democrats hate the poor so much? Isn’t he supposed to care about all people, not just the rich ones who give money to his campaigns?
Is it because they don’t spend enough money at D’Jais (1%-ers) to keep in town?
Limousine Liberal Mayor Doherty and his friends on the council. By their own votes, they step on people who are down on their luck.
I agree with the other posts. I was so impressed that the young man from the Mayfair Hotel got dressed better than a Councilman, got up to address the council eloquently, passionately and even sighting the 14th Amendment. Even with all the pretense, posturing and Bull—- put forward by a council more concerned with swans, bars and themselves, Life showed up. I left the Dems a long time ago because of this lip service and keeping them down reality. I pray this ordinance further embarrasses them. I pray it never passes.
Tom,
you are incorrect, he was wearing a shirt.
Having recently retired from the postal service I needed an affordable place to live. The Mayfair Hotel seemed an ideal choice until the ordinance concerning hotels and rooming houses surfaced.I am unaware of any activity that justifies this punitive action. The city council should rethink this one.
America depends on honest judges no judge knows this. all US citizens re entitled to DUE PROCESS. One word defines DUE PROCESS “FAIRNESS” judges work for the government and fairness is what the government says is “NECESSARY AND PROPER” Read the US Constitution The “necessary and proper” clause (Article 1, Section 8) of the Constitution has been referred to as the Elastic Clause the government decides what is necessary and proper.
So…the Councilman referred to dressed down as “one of the people” – so that the common folks would identify with him and frequent the bar and grille, not some classy, upscale joint where people dress up all nice and proper. It does not matter what he wears, what matters is if he is of strong character with convictions that reflect what is best for ALL. Mayor Doherty wears a suit, and well, what does he stand for? Mr. Brennan still has much time to show his colors, then he may wear a kilt, which would please me.
EXCUSE ME

Sir, I must respectfully disagree. He has shown his “colors” by bringing down standards. It’s all down hill from here on out with this guy. Trust me on this one. I’ve seen this routine for years.
Next Belmar council meeting is Tuesday, Feb 3 at 6 pm.
Please come to discuss the ordinance to require hotels to limit stays to 30 days.
There are numerous hotels and boarding houses in Belmar with long-term residents. Some of them have lived in town over 15 years. Numerous hotel residents have serious illnesses including cancer, heart disease, emphysema, ptsd, among other health issues.
Being thrown out of town will cause enormous stress for hotel residents. It is the dead of winter and not a good time to move suddenly. People in finacial crisis deserve to live in Belmar too. Is being poor something that limits eligibility to live in this town?
Who created this ordinance anyway? It should be public knowledge
