Belmar would need to hire 5 more cops if the deal to take over police services for Lake Como goes through ! Heck with that.

There really seems to be nothing in it for Belmar.

As a show of good faith by Lake Como, every member of their council and the mayor should resign. Short of that, we shouldn’t partner up with them.

And the woman at the microphone running the meeting doesn’t even know that we, Belmar, already dispatch for Lake Como Police through an agreement that we get paid for. Really on top of things Jenn. Who voted for this person? Unbelievable. Does she even know what a budget looks like? Please, people, vote this lady out!!!!!

Admin: You are 100% correct, there is nothing in it for Belmar except higher taxes. The only people who may benefit are the residents of Lake Como and Doherty. He will put this on his resume’ of “accomplishments”. If the residents of Lake Como get to vote on this, so should the residents of Belmar. The proposed money we are supposed to get from Lake Como will barely cover hiring 5 officers.

It’s pretty amazing that Belmar has provided dispatching services to Lake Como for 2015 and can only produce 9 months of call sheets. One would think that Belmar would know exactly how many calls and the nature of calls dispatched rather than an expert providing a “educated guess”.

I hope Belmar now has a say on the proposed parking meters Lake como wants to install on their part of the Lake since Belmar officers will have to enforce.

#8 – Sir, I don’t want to have a say in any of their internal affairs. Once we start having a say, we will inevitably be drawn into their internal squabbles and from there, everything will go downhill. Nobody likes meddlers.

#8 FYI, I believe under the agreement Como would get the parking meter revenues if they go ahead with the meters, but Belmar would get all the revenue from any tickets.

#8- Hence the quagmire that could exist. #9- Unfortunately you will wish you could have a say in their “internal affairs” but will not have the powers. As Mark hinted on at the meeting: The powers that be in Lake Como (at the time) can pass ordinances, rules and such that can affect the functions of our Police Dept. We will not have a say on them. For instance if Lake Como decided to allow their bars to stay open till 4 am, or if they decided their Academy School required added police services, or if they passed an ordinance banning the use of water-guns (you get the idea?), these added chores would drain the precious resources we now we now enjoy. This could get very complicated very quickly. and what’s in it for Belmar?????

Okay then, what about another petition to bring this to yet another vote? At least then we’ve got a fighting chance. The way things stand now, when it comes to our council voting, it’s already a done deal – YES. We have this petition system so let’s use it in this case. I think the people of Belmar will vote it down if they get a chance.

#13. If you believe in the petition system, organize it and put it together.

I would like to know what happened to the men on the list that were waiting to be appointed when there was an opening on the Belmar force and Belmar hired 3 Lake Como police officers outside of the list? Could they have hired them after the list ran out who knows? If it happened it is not the first time a Police department has beat the list.

Bohrman and Jones circumvented the list and were taken through a Inter-Local agreement, costing us about $500k more over the next ten years. They were hired at steps above Step 1 and will always be steps above their years here. Speakman(hired at end of Dec. was pulled off of the civil service list. That left three others on the list, one being an African American woman that lost out on being considered with the Inter-Local ploy. Not sure of the remaining time left on the list, they do expire.
