Great going Mayor and Council wasting the courts time. If you don’t want the public to know what you are doing go to a county like Cuba, what a bunch of idiot you all are!

What is it with the Clerk? Doesn’t she know how to legally do her job? Isn’t there a remedial program she can attend that explains that politics have no place in her workplace.
OPEN RECORDS means open the records to the sunshine; She should not scheme to fog or blur the lines or obscure information from the public.
This is like a bad B movie. Or an old vinyl album that skips replaying the same tune over and over and over again!!!!!!!!! Or chalk screeching down a blackboard!!!!! Or a Twilight zone episode!!!!!!! Hhhhhheeeellllppppp!!! We’ve fallen and we can’t get up!!!!!!!
The clerk should be held accountable for this. When it comes to OPRA and transparency, the courts have been very clear. Besides, why in the world would the town not willingly hand over the documents ?

When are you people going to wake up?
This is the playbook that the progressive left has to must go by to further their agenda. Stop being surprised stop wondering how they can do this and think they won’t get found out. Stop thinking they are in trouble. The reason for all is they KNOW nothing will ever happen to stop them because enforcement won’t do anything because they are in bed with them. They lose every single court case, and you wonder why they are still doing this. When will you wake up to he solution? Vote out incumbent politicians, GRIP. Everything they do promotes their ideology. So if they are not in power they cannot promote their ideology. So if you get scum like these people in, in 4 years they are out with GRIP. Then whatever damage they do can be repaired. I know you all think I’m looney but you will keep suffering until you wake up. I don’t lose a minutes sleep trying to figure them out because I know every single step they make, and why they make them.
#8 Bill I hear you. There was an article in the Sunday paper showing an increase in shore homes as 2nd homes. People complain about the bars and the restaurants, look at how busy Pier 9 is, Ollie Klein’s, Restaurant row in the Plaza. People are not moving in to Belmar because it is the top of the list in the school ratings we know about that.We have a bar that opens at 7AM and the Shoralan Club is doing a booming business. The parting people don’t care about our vision of quality of life they care about THEIRS!
Mr. Straus the Sunshine Law would not exist without Democrats. Sen. Chiles Lawton (D) created the bill and had backing from his fellow Dems. Every decision made by Matt falls into the Republican ideology.

What irks me is that the DEP appears to condone the blatant infractions regarding permits, etc. Protecting the environment is also business and any pipe dream of pure-hearted custodians of such in government is just a sham. Of course people claim that Trenton is corrupt, and power-hungry people go into politics to feed at the hog trough and make deals. What else is new. Revolution time, I say; GRIP is a start.
Maybe someone who knows the specifics of the CAFRA permit, and how Matt has gone around it, could contact the New Jersey Environmental Federation’s, David Pringle or New Jersey Sierra Club, Jeff Tittle. Perhaps they could get some movement with DEP, or at least get it to the media.
Making deals for personal enrichment is political party neutral. Party loyalty is sometimes simply an unexamined position.

Aileen, do you really think Belmar is comprised solely of democrat or republican thinkers? And, if so, what’s wrong with either or any political persuasion as long as they weigh the issues behind the anonymity of the voting booth in the General Election?

#16 I think Belmar is made of mostly people who think they fall into either of those 2 categories, but I think that Matt behaves more like a Republican. Mr. Straus – your statement in # 14 about the opra violations being non partisan is exactly what I’m trying to say to you, and your #14 statement is in contradiction to your point in #8. I agree that there is hubris and disregard for the law here in Belmar. I don’t agree that it’s because they are Democrats.
Sound systems will compete with the legendary Headliner boat amplified by the Shark River. Seaview serendipity. This will take the heat off Djais until the Lombardis make Frank and Co an offer they can’t refuse for their nightclub. Gulp!

Ok let’s say we had all Republicans on the Dais. Let’s say they built big dunes, eliminated badges, made our beach a state run area. Let’s say you are against these changes. Let’s say bloggers ranted that the Republicans are at it again, ruining things. I would correct you and say that those are typical Democrat things to do.
We’re on the same page here. I’m making a point about how partisanship becomes about simply rooting for your team. Yes, we have a Democrat-led council. I don’t believe they’re behaving in the spirit of their ideology.
I voted against the pavilion price tag. I collected signatures to preserve our campaign finance ordinance. I’ve spoke up at meetings against many changes over the years. But if I disagree with your comments that it’s the “progressive left” making these changes, you say I’m drinking the Kool Aid or sounding like Claire. I guess I can’t put a fine point on anything. I think all of this is good reason to change to a non partisan political system in Belmar.
And return to the commission form of government, hopefully with bipartisan elected commissioners. Yea non partisan team.

# 30 Aileen- Don’t go anywhere. It’s rough being a Democrat on these pages. But you have acted in the best interests of all citizens multiple times. And you are not afraid to stand up for what you know is right and say it to the mayor and Council, regardless of your political party. Some people on this blog couldn’t (or wouldn’t) hear anything you said after “I am a Democrat”, regardless of whether it was negative or positive. No need to sign off… and I am not a Democrat myself. Just believe in doing what’s right for Belmar and electing the best person to do it, no matter their political affiliation.
I agree with Aileen I am a registered Democrat what is going on in Belmar has nothing to do with the party. It has everything to do with corruption. There are some things that would have been so much easier, in fact, enjoyable if the town administration acted fairly and was transparent. Too many favors given by the mayor, backdoor deals and businesses working with the mayor behind the scenes. I will never go to Klein’s again after that debacle at the meeting. What happens to certain builders, business owners and many residents when they fall out of favor with Doherty is wrong. He is wrong for Belmar and certainly the County. The council are not educated in municipal law or guidelines and do not represent us intelligently. Janis’ only reason for denying the transfer of the liquor license was “uh duh location” she presents as ignorant. Obviously there are many establishments closer to the senior building. We really need to change the administration to persons that put the interests of Belmar first. I don’t care what party they represent I just want the mayor and council to be responsive to the residents.
