Who ever said that the Borough Hall folks don’t read this blog? Great job Common Sense for Belmar! Now Mayor & Council, where are the budget cuts??
They do read the blog but this story was in all the newspapers.
This is long overdue. 8th and Main very dangerous as well.
Speaking of walking, will the new structure going up outside of Flames interfere with sidewalk pedestrian traffic ? Seems like a wheelchair or stroller may have a problem.

Listen up people!!!! Stay inside… Plenty of traffic in Belmar. I made a mistake and took a walk by DJais. What a mess. STAY INSIDE UNTIL THE SUN RISES ON MONDAY(If it does)
How about enforcing and ticketing the rampant jaywalking crossing illegally from Djais between 18th and 19th to use our boardwalk bathroom while they wait on line.

Today thunder and lightning on the beach….. Spring Lake beach goers were ordered off the beach… However Belmar beach goers were allowed to remain…. Its the culture….
Summer Timer. More bullsh#t coming out of your mouth. I was on our beach yesterday and it was completely cleared during the thunder storm. Go back to Bayonne and swim in the Newark Bay.
Another miss informed Belmar resident…. I was on the beach at the border of SL and Belmar…. SL was not allowed back on beach for 1/2 half after lighting thunder, but in Belmar there were beach goers…. Just another example of the low standards in Belmar…
#11 You are incorrect. I witnessed guards attempting to remove beachgoers from the beach during the storm. Most people did leave. The few patrons that remained on the beach disobeyed the guards orders.

#12…. There were many individuals remaining on the beach in Belmar from my vantage point… SL was completely cleared of beach goers… Belmar just has lower standards… Furthermore,you just stated Belmar beaches had individuals remaining, just like I noted….. What did I say that was WRONG???
#13 It is the paternal instinct that the government has. We, government, knows what you need.
#13  while the beach is open and charging people to stand on it, those people are then the responsibility of the entity that owns it. So, when a dangerous situation occurs (lightning, shark, rough ocean conditions etc) they must order folks off the the beach or out of the water. We the collective tax payers that fund the operation of the entity that runs the beach will be liable for the inevitable lawsuit that would follow any injury to a beach goer or bather that wasn’t ordered away from the potential danger. Not to mention the cost of emergency services that would accompany such a tragedy. We all pay for that too. So be thankful that “the paternal gov” tries to make people leave a dangerous situation. Yes, a citizen can determine for himself what is safe or unsafe but not when the rest of us are financially liable for the fallout and the situation is objectively unsafe (beach+lightning)
Notice they don’t tell you to go home. Just leave the beach. You can walk down main street, stand in a parking lot, or even stand on the boardwalk. Hell, if you wanna sit in a metal boat under a tree on your front lawn during a thunderstorm, go ahead. Your homeowners insurance will pick up the tab (unless there’s a clause in the fine print about doing that), but that’s the private sector’s way trying to protect itself from bad and dangerous behavior.
So when you say ‘the government’ you’re talking about us. We are the government and the government is us. And we shouldn’t want to to be financially liable for people who don’t have enough sense to get off the beach when there is a lightning storm.

Did anyone get the plate #? This is getting more ridiculous as the summer proceeds. The behavior of our Visitors? must change.You see people being victims of hit and run accidents on the news but never expect Belmar residents to endure this new trend. Violent,abusive,drunken,drugged behavior is not something we should have to adapt to.I am personally sick of this town reacting instead of of being proactive.
I’m amused. Two guys carrying on like a couple of young girls instead of having the fight they should have and let it be over and settled. Oh well, that’s the way of things these days. Everybody’s scared of their own shadow.
The best way to facilitate pedestrian safety is to do what my mom told me. Look both ways before crossing the street. I would add to it, by suggesting that pedestrians not look at their phones while crossing and drivers don’t do it while driving.
