   AD Advanced has an 8-story residential building right on 6th and Main. We’ve lost our minds. Can’t anyone just build a nice municipal building without going hog wild with the extras? This is the best we can do?

   On pages 104-107 of the ADG proposal, they are proposing we build an 8-story building on the corner of 6th and Main. That is exactly what I stated (tho maybe I could have written it better, tho you could have read it better, as I said 8-story, not 6-story).

   Anyway, I did not mean there is CURRENTLY an 8-story building in Belmar. I’m not THAT new here. Please read the proposal before you make snide comments.

   @I’m New Here: There is a 9 story building in Belmar and there were 4 and 5 story buildings east of Main according to a photo on the Historical Society’s FB page dated 1938. While this project seems a little over blown, something slightly scaled back will freshen up that tired area. It is quite ugly as it is. Good luck to the owners of the properties with their project. I would love to see more proposals. Hopefully all can come to an agreement on something that will please the impossible to please here on this page.

    Perhaps we need a new council that will focus on paying down Belmar’s debt and not focus on urbanizing Belmar.
    Our town began to flourish when only single family homes were allowed to replace existing structures that were torn down. Let’s return to that master plan and mirror our bordering towns of Spring Lake and Avon. The place for hi rise apartments and ferry service could be Asbury or Long Branch.

    I do not think Ferry service is a bad thing, as someone who regularily commutes to the city. The parking garage will charge for parking and this will be use during the week on off hours, wouldnt that be a win/win?

    Also belmar has a history of being a vacation destination. why does everyone want to make it spring lake or avon? what is wrong with remaining belmar and having a lively bar/restaurant scene and blending the old with the new?

    I commute from an urban workplace to Belmar precisely because I don’t want to live in an urban setting.
    We also don’t need a 4th wedding reception venue in a 1.4 sq. mile town.

    @10 Asbury and Long Branch do not have an inlet.. kind of hard to dock and load a ferry on the ocean. As for being like Spring Lake, can you afford Spring Lake? There is a reason it has remained “quaint”. I think this area needs improvement instead of resisting all change, how about making suggestions? It is going to happen, so might as well work towards making it something we all can be proud of.

    This proposal seems outrageous! Maybe they’re introducing this massive, totally out of control proposal so that when they scale it back to what they really want (and what is, hopefully, appropriate), all the townspeople will be happy with their “compromises” and how well they listened to their constituents. Gee… they could be heroes!

    Yes Long Branch and Asbury May are not a fit for ferry service and yet their redevelopment is still flourishing without it – Belmar can too – it is not necessary for successful redevelopment here. Let’s return to seaport plan of the Pringle years with a pedestrian only
    area near the river, add parking and just repair the municipal complex.
    Moreover, Belmar has had rising property
    values by following Spring Lakes model and only building single family homes.
