Doherty: Harmons “Police Bashing”

Mayor Doherty on Tuesday called the legal action”a frivolous and baseless lawsuit that lacks any merit.’

Referencing the police department’s role in the application process, Mr. Doherty accused the Harmons of “police bashing” and attempting to “undermine” the department.

“I am particularly disturbed by the way Tim Harmon and Matt Harmon viciously attack the Belmar Police Department with false allegations,” the mayor said, adding, “it is all because they allege the town caused them emotional distress and hurt their feelings. We will aggressively defend our police against Tim Harmon’s and Matt Harmon’s attacks.”

Frivolous and baseless? From what I can see it seems the mayor’s dirty politics put a couple of police officers and others in a very bad position and, unfortunately, they may have gone along with it. He has to come out and try to defend them and make the Harmon’s look like the bad guys. If this is all true, they could possibly lose their jobs or worse.

The police and other borough officials and employees appear to have been used as tools of the administration to effect their vile and malicious intentions, but the main issue is to defend the mayor and council members who have become drunken by their perceived power and invincibility, arrogance at its height. Frivolous, sure, if that is what the mayor says, but that is what he always says when challenged. Pride goes before a fall.

Matt is a bully and a coward. His tenure as Mayor has not been good for Belmar. We have paid a fortune for his selfish self-serving law suites. He has divided the town politically, not united it. He lacks the temperament and moral authority to be Mayor. Please step down. (And take your clow-car Council with you.)

How typical Matt Dorehty. Trying to change the focus off himself and the fact that HE is being sued. AGAIN. His favorite word.”frivolous” What’s his frivolous loss at? 9? Or is it 10? I’m losing count. Trying to change the dialogue toward his defense of the police would be laughable if it weren’t so pathetic. Watch your back boys and girls.

Going to be hard for Matt to keep this lie going , too many people involved. Hopefully Maggie has some cash put aside , she is going to need it to bail him out of this one. How dumb do you have to be to ask / tell Ollie “I’m going to need you to complain about these guys ” going to be fun watching him go down.

#10 unless you are a doctor or psychiatrist you should not be diagnosing anyone with mental illness or referring to them as delusional, paranoid or schizophrenic. These terms should not be used lightly and certainly not by someone who likely does not have the high level of education and clinical practice to correctly diagnose these disorders.

Have we not heard the definition of insanity is doing the same thing multiple times expecting the result to be different? Have we not heard ‘has no merit’ ‘frivolous’ and similar description applied by the mayor to prior lawsuits[and like Katrina I have lost count]just prior to those suits being either settled in the plaintiff’s favor or adjudicated against the mayor and the boro? Has anyone done a tally of the money the boro has laid out as a result of the mayors misjudgement of the merits of these suits[and of course the actions leading to being sued]? How are the boros insurance premiums being affected? For that matter , with the current team led by the mayor in charge, will we still be able to obtain insurance? And of course what is the cost per hundred of assessment on YOUR tax bill?

  24. Just to clarify something, Guilty. Be it the Belmar police, our head-nodding Council, the “frivolous” Mayor, Administrator or anyone else found guilty/responsible in these latest accusations, none of them volunteered to be part of the scheme. They are individually self-determining adults, all well paid by the residents of Belmar in their varied capacities, who chose graft, promotions or job security, bullying and intimidation, dereliction of their duties, or, perhaps, campaign contributions to be part of unholy alliance with our well sued governing body. No passes to anyone associated with this disgrace.
