Actually I’m working on a plan to park visitors 6 miles away at Monmouth Executive Airport and then fly them into Belmar from there. In a “pilot” run depicted below, a group of young people descended upon D’Jais for a night of car-free partying.

Matt Doherty, sir you have bigger problems down at D’Jais than the Uber drivers. The place is consistently overcrowded and is a magnet for mayhem. Wake up and limit their occupancy to a safe level and eliminate their ability to create entry lines. Now that would be leadership. Since the mayor and council people continue to ignore this issue, what is the position of those seeking our votes this November?
WRONG AGAIN MATT. It is not Ubers’ problem to figure out how to enact laws and put into place measures to ensure a safe flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Uber does not have the power to do that, YOU DO. And that cost should be borne by DJ’s. I challenge you to meet on a Saturday night, perhaps near closing time, with your Code Official, Fire Marshall and Chief Andy to come up with a plan to resolve these issues. PLEASE LET US KNOW AT THE NEXT COUNCIL MEETING HOW IT WENT. You may want to pre-empt that with a trip to Parker House to take some notes. I also would love to hear from our new incoming council member Josh on how he feels. Unfortunately Tom can plead the 5th on the issue as he has no say in alcohol related topics. Some group we have here in Office. Vote them out.
Try going to Asbury… Lines of traffic just bringing visitors day or night looking for parking spaces, valet or parking lots.
Uber Drop offs and pick up customers at Dunkin’ Donuts constant day or night in loading zones and at the corners. Pedestrian crossing is treacherous. No crossing guards/police to direct traffic. No traffic enforcement whatsoever. County responsible for enforcement or Belmar. Sheriff Officers need to get paid OT by UBER, LYFT AND DJAIS to protect us?
#2 – the mayor is at D’Jais all of the time to observe what goes on there. Well, at least he observes everything from the inside of the joint.
Why can’t taxis, Uber etc. drivers pick up and drop off passengers in D’Jais parking lot?
After reading this, it also pertains to anyone picking up or dropping off passengers. When I go out to dinner with my elderly mother, if there’s no parking lot, I’ll drop her off in-front of the restaurant and then go find a parking spot. Under these rules, I would be ticketed. Not good.
#6- With all due respect, it’s called Police Discretion. And you can thank God they have it. No one wants a ticket for going 26 mph in a 25 mph zone. And if you happen to be awake at 2 am on a Sunday morning can I suggest you walk over to DJ’s and watch the sh.tshow.
I wonder if the new Fire Marshall has accessed DJais occupancy limit? Or is he not allowed near this hands off establishment?
So many things to comment on in this thread.
I’ve read the comments on NJ.com and the major concern is drinking and driving. Uber and taxis are essential in combating this, and dissuading these services is truly disheartening.
#7 – I’m from a law enforcement family and the reality is that if there’s an opportunity to get a ticket in a shore town you will. It’s a major source of revenue and that’s indisputable.
DJ’s – They do a thriving business in the summer and it’s been that way for decades. The same is true for many of the legacy clubs. Back in the day, my crew would hang out at Bar A on Sundays w/ LaBamba and the Hubcaps – the place was always (and still is) packed. I can sympathize with those that live close to the clubs.
Asbury Park – Absolutely amazing turn around!! My wife and I always take Uber to AP – we have a great time w/ no worry of drinking and driving.
