Bar fights happen often. Whether belmar, bayonne, or allenhurst.

reading some of the other comments on this, the bars and bar owners are not to blame, but the clientele and those who can not control themselves from drinking and have anger issues.

Just look at society today, the youth are more entitled and act more irresponsibly then ever before.

Raise a comment if you’ve ever been in a bar fight. If the answer is affirmative, please describe the bar fight(s) in which you were engaged.

#2 – Although you are correct that we need to hold individuals responsible for their actions, the licenses for these bars themselves have restrictions on the over-serving of alcohol to patrons. These bars are overcrowded, which can be curtailed and the patrons are being grossly over-served, which can also be curtailed.

#4… You are correct we need to hold individuals accountable for their actions… However before that can be achieved, the Mayor and council along with local law enforcement must be held accountable… The town administration is responsible for establishing policies for how these bars will be allowed to operate…

5 – Agreed. A 650 person occupancy at D’Jais and the existence of an outdoor bar, which was never approved, is quite a disgrace.

Billy Boy, somehow I think there are more bar fights in Belmar than Allenhurst. I believe in personal responsibility and I even practice it myself but many do not so I don’t think providing an overcrowded alcohol infused environment conducive to bad behavior is a good idea.

You are making an assumption that the bar was over crowded, how does overcrowding, if it is infact true, lead to an argument? Please explain?

Additionally, I am not taking the bar’s side here.. what I am saying is the bar is not to blame. People act up and misbehave. There is no way to know anyone here was over served, we are just pilling on a bar to pile on.

The driver for all we know could have been sober, and was a jealous ex of either who was not in the area, and came from let’s say bayonne after then.. nothing to do with the bar..

#5- again why are we assuming they are doing anything to operate incorrectly? shouldnt we wait for facts to come out?

#8…. In any responsible town, you would not have the opportunity to operate a business in this manner…

Billy, if you don’t know how overcrowding leads to arguments and fights then
you must have never been in an overcrowded bar.

A couple of things about bars and fights. Years ago, I used to go to a bar named the WigWam in Brooklyn. The thing with that place was if you left before around 9pm, you were Okay. But if you stayed later than that, the Indians would have their snoot full and fights would erupt. If it got bad enough the cops would come and the Indians would attack them like anyone else. Every so often a cop would get angry and actually arrest one of the Indians

I used to go to another place in Brooklyn named Farrells. Now they had the right idea. While the guys got drunk and occasionally there’d be a fight, nothing really bad ever happened because they kept the really bad element out of the bar (the cause of 85-90% of bar fights) by means of a sly and cunning trick. They had no bar stools so if you were going to drink at Farrells, you had to stand. Women won’t stand at the bar.
