Jerry speaks my language…….. Hope he wins…
This blog seems to be losing it’s flair. All comments are irrelevant. It really is a shame.
Please somebody do it. I would be happy to help anyone who wants to do this get started. Planning on retiring soon.
2 – It has gone stale.
This blog has been very informative and has exposed a lot. Without this blog, we wouldn’t know half of what goes on. I understand Dave wanting to give it up. He no longer lives in Belmar. I thank him for continuing the blog even after he moved out of Belmar. Thank you Dave! I hope it continues for a bit longer.
I for one would be lost without this blog. The information/corruption that is exposed is unprecedented. It’s my only source of information. I appreciate the efforts of the admin and hope if he retires that someone will pick up the ball. Thank you admin!

I resent the negative comments about this blog. The fact that Dave kept this site going after he moved out of state says volumes about his dedication to us-the residents of Belmar. Kudos to him for the time and effort he puts in to research Belmar events, publish, and review comments. I don’t know of anyone else who would carry out the responsibilities of publishing a blog in the manner that Dave has-and over a long time period. Thank You Dave! You’ve kept us well-informed and in the loop!
Appreciate all the kind words but I think it’s time to let someone who actually lives there do this.
Sure has been a lot of fun, though.

No offense against Dave at all. My point is no matter what is revealed on this blog nothing ever happens to those in the wrong. It has been proven time and time again. Corruption will continue in Belmar now more then ever.
#16 that’s not the blogs fault if the mayor, council and BA do nothing. If it wasn’t for this blog we, myself included wouldn’t know what’s going on. BA Kirschenbaum is the root of the town’s problems. He was involved in Boatgate, he allowed Huisman to be hired at DPW,and allowed Campbell to feel he was untouchable which ultimately bit him in the ass. Let’s get some qualified people in these positions.

I have found this blog to be very informative. The things that have come to light on here are incredible. Don’t want you to go Dave!
#2,4- This blog continues, as always, to inform and expose. Dave does an amazing job at uncovering information, exposing lies, and pulling back the curtain that hides the self serving nature of political leaders on BOTH sides of the isle. We ALL owe him a debt of gratitude. And this is coming from someone that is diametrically opposed to Dave’s political stance.
The comment section, however, is a different story. While we are all entitled to express our opinions, there are scant few commenters on this blog that actually walk the walk. During the height of Matt’s indefensible and blatant corruption and hubris, there would be countless indignant comments here. But at the council meetings, it was a different story. Only a handful of citizens would be there in person to speak truth to power. The rest were content on typing impotently on their computer screens from home. So no, numbers 2 and 4, this blog hasn’t gone stale. It is as informative and entertaining as ever. But it is we the people that must engage politically if we are ever going to create a system of government where blogs like this one are obsolete. Dave, keep up the good work, and although I’m not the person to take over this often thankless task, I hope someone steps up.

What is the single biggest quality of life problem in Belmar and how do you propose to fix it?
Brennan: “Appropriate development in the future improves quality of life. Belmar does need to grow. But we must keep those things that make Belmar the town it is, the small-town feel, the sense of community. It must follow the Master Plan, Seaport Redevelopment Plan, all zoning rules.”
Kinney: “Right now, COVID-19 is the biggest quality of life issue. We are still unable to fully occupy churches, restaurants and other businesses, and must wear masks everywhere. We must get through this winter as best we can, continuing with social distancing, masks and sanitizing so we can hopefully move into spring as healthy as possible, and with more of a sense of hope that this will be coming to an end.”
Buccafusco: “Our biggest quality of life problem is overcrowding during the summer months. Belmar has always attracted large crowds of visitors to its shores, however, the crowds have been getting larger and this past summer, due to the pandemic, was a record breaker. For the health and safety of the residents and visitors we must take steps to avoid uncontrollable overcrowding. I have a four-part proposal. First, I would seek expert advice on determining a safe, reasonable number of beach goers that our beaches can accommodate. Second, that number should be used to limit daily beach badge sales, taking into account the number of season and senior badges that have been issued. Third, daily badge sales should be limited to online sales only. Fourth, adequate notification to the public must be made through social media or highway signs regarding the closure of the beaches to avoid visitors driving into town, roaming the streets looking for parking spaces.”

What should Belmar do to keep taxes down?
Buccafusco: “Obviously, I would focus on decreasing spending. First, I would recommend a comprehensive study of salaries in comparable municipalities for non-union, managerial employees and political appointees. Next, I would like a comparison of staffing levels, by department in those municipalities as compared to Belmar. If necessary, to achieve additional savings I would urge mandated cutbacks in departmental, non-salary expenditures. A longer-term proposal would be to review the functions of each municipal department with an eye towards instituting operating efficiencies and/or possible consolidation.”
Brennan: “Cut costs wherever possible. Shared services helps do that. We must increase revenue from alternate sources, e.g. the municipal marina, policing services, etc. Look for more alternative revenue sources.”
Kinney: “Ratables. Belmar needs to attract more new businesses to the town to offset the high taxes.”

This blog is as good now as it is ever been. If it wasn’t for this blog I would not no know $hit about this town. I will truly be sad to see it go. Perhaps it can be linked to Belmar Facebook groups etc. to enlighten the residents who are as ignorant as I used to be.
Brennan “Shared services…..”??? Really. I call it subsidizing other towns in keeping them running. At what cost you ask? Well our taxes have gone up almost 20 % in the last few years. Lake Como’s taxes continue to go down. Mr. Brennan, you are running for office in Belmar, not Lake Como. Bye Bye. Thanks for nothing. Go pick up plastic bags in your spare time.
#23, Mr Dilberger we get it. If you don’t want to vote, don’t vote. But you of all people should understand that no one like to be told how to live their lives. What do you care? You live your life and let everyone else live their’s. You certainly don’t like people telling you what to do. I always thought of you as an old school independent spirit, not the type to try to get everyone to act the same.
Maybe run for office next time a seat comes up? Since these three are all unqualified in your view.
23-Tom Brennan is very fit for re-election. From what I’ve been reading, he’s done much to improve the environment, and has developed programs for residents. Also, I’ve learned that he tries to cut costs for the borough, and finds ways to increase revenue. I disagree totally with what # 23 states in his comments.
Except Tom can’t vote on bar related subjects.
#27- I suggest you read back a little more in history. Brennan is the sole councilman left over from the admin that got us into such a terrible financial mess in the first place. Wallie was there also for a shorter period of time. HE/Brennan chose to put himself in the position of not being able to have input/vote on liquor laws in this town. #byebyetommie
#27- Stop reading Facebook and please don’t believe everything you read. Pour over some of the council meeting videos and you will see he is a yes man and a do nothing.
I’m learning of the many contributions Tom Brennan has made to the community-particularly in the area of the environment. He has spearheaded projects that focus on the beach and open spaces. I can’t think of any other council person over the years who has been so dedicated to the preservation of our natural resources.
None of these poor candidates running for our council will do us any good. But I imagine they’re sufficiently bad to be considered for the post of nj’s first pot Czar (head of the pot agency murphy will set up to oversee the distribution of pot in this state) if the Marijuana question passes.
