While a good natured thought to help people does the borough of belmar have the legal right to stop revenue into the borough or utility to ask people to donate instead. The beach utility whether legal or not off sets the municipal tax base. That police car responding to a call – probably from the beach utility. The DPW truck. Probably a beach utility paid truck. Etc etc. this suspension of “income” seems to be an agreegious abuse of one mans power in town that has once again cost the Borough a lot of money

The new public safety building could not be more poorly built and leaks like a sieve. Walls and paint already buckling. Doors and windows leaking.

The borough should have charged for entrance and parking to the beach Monday. The only good weather day of the holiday. They could have had fundraising boxes as well.

Claire. I will give you my take of the gift cards. When I was living in Absecon with son and family and you called me when I was down there to see how I was doing. I thought that was very nice of you. That said I want to give you my experience with the gift cards. When I arrived talking to different people I heard my first stories of the gift cards. I asked and was told they were given $500.00 cards
And they were available at the Boro hall and went to get one. clerk #1 told me I wasn’t on the list and she couldn’t give me one and turned me over to the Boro Clerk who explained I wasn’t on her list and also could’ have one. Who do I talk to next and I was told the Boro Administrator but I would have to make an appointment. So I did.
I arrived with my accumulated paper electric bills with zero balances and explained why Inwas there in case she missed the original visit. After seeing my bills with 0 usage she informed me that I probably turned the meter off my self. Twice my meters were removed both were returned after an inspection because I was the 3rd house away from the fire that after being turned on we were shut off by JCP&L. Well I have a friend who works there I will call her and get back to you. She never did. My
Theory was and still is if I supported
the administration that was in I would have had gift cards and if I had I would have had the same gift cards everyone else around here had. So I didn’t go back to the Boro Administer I
Took my papers to an attorney to get a second opinion. The bills were good he said it was political he said. You might consider going back with a recorder and tape the next meeting and
Things might be different. That I didn’t want to do and I left it go. Then I read and hear what happened with the people and the house over on the point and decided that that was not a deal that I would want anything to do with so I let it go. I have been in this house for 54 years with 4 years on the other side of the lake and felt I
Should have been entitled to a card. This is true and fact with no lies or
embellishment. Maybe there was a side you were never exposed to. I do not know how you missed the names that those of us that were not supporting and thrilled with our mayor and read about in the papers and heard them at meetings. That is when I stopped going to the meetings. When you are a resident of a town and pay your taxes
And when you are alone battleing survival in the mess that was up here I
listened to my oldest child and went south to get away from it. It was wrong
and the incident never should have happened. But it is done and whether you believe everyone is picking on the mayor it may not necessarily be the case.

Terry-So sorry that you endured that horrible experience with the Shop Rite Gift Cards. That said, I was happy to help you. Whatever you asked of me in the line of assistance during post Sandy I delivered. I think there was some issue with the front of your property (?) post Sandy. Jen Nicolay assisted you with a specific concern as well. As I recall, we were going to do lunch, remember? That said, since you and I were in communication at the time, why didn’t you mention the gift card situation to me? I would have ensured you a card. I always deliver-you know me long enough to realize that.Or as Katrina initiated about me in an earlier post, “it’s who ya know”.Does politics enter into the Shop Rite gift card issue as you and your attorney assert? Don’t know. But in all other problem solving during post Sandy it did not. As I mentioned in an earlier post, residents who loathed me and my politics during Sandy were served, as was the case with Jen Nicolay, and as was the case with other council members.
With regard to the Mayor being “picked on,” as you put it. Even the smallest bit of good will that he has carried out has been criticized and over analyzed . Think what you will about him, but he’s done some good things for Belmar. The criticisms/comments about him on this blog are mind-boggling. True, it’s the right of every American citizen to state their opinions. But his outreaches to residents in need are too many to cite. Matt’s basement suffered thousands of dollars of damage during Sandy. It sat that way for months after… before he even began to deal with it..until he was satisfied that Belmar was well on its way to recovery. I think he had his priorities straight. He lived in the relief center for two weeks-never returning home. He was out in the field helping residents clean up their properties. How do I know this? I witnessed this. Yet all he got was constant badgering and criticism with every decision he made during that time frame.
I do know that the Shop Rite gift cards were given to those in need… this is factual. Whatever else happened with the cards passed me by. As far as your comment about the meetings-I’m not clear on your meaning. Please clarify. Thanks for your input and response to my commentary.

The situation puts me in mind of when the mayor’s house was picketed a year ago August. Horrible words about the mayor were written on those signs. No one cared that his children could have, at any time, come from their house and read them. Our two Florida Friends were almost jumping for joy-gleeful that the demonstration was being pulled off. They could care less about the children. The administrator found out that one of the children wasn’t home at the time, and one was too young to read..he posted this..I guess justifying that all was fine Really? That makes it OK? No one knew this at the time of the protest. When I approached the administrator,face-to-face, the father of two daughters, and asked what he thought about the incident… he had little to say…..but I sensed that he had second thoughts and was sort of sorry.
I adored my father, and would have been devastated if I experienced this scenario. Dads are idolized by their children. Demonstrations are fine….but keep it on topic…what you disagree with, or what you think is wrong with the mayor’s policies or decisions. Thanks, Admin, for posting the link in #56. This provides an opportunity for catching up for anyone who has not kept informed about what is going on in Belmar. The articles at the end of the piece are enlightening and clicking on one leads to more, some different, at the end of each article. Only if this information were available in the Coast Star and Asbury Park Press! How so many can still blindly support this mayor amazes me and confirms that some people are desperate for a leader because they will not think for themselves and analyze the facts. Pure party politics at its worst. Donkey or elephant? Doesn’t matter if the skull is devoid of a brain.

Dave-Thanks for posting the link about Shop Rite gift cards. Backs up my earlier comments.
Ms Perspicacity-Correct-children have nothing to do with gift cards….they have to do with reading words of character assassination about their beloved father. This came up earlier on this blog….I responded that people, with anonymous titles, write horrible things about the mayor-their children, probably, know about and have read them. If you have issues with the mayor’s decisions or politics, then submit those. I also cited the picket demonstration at the mayor’s house last summer. Horrific insults hurled at the mayor by way of picket signs….with his children possibly at home. Administrator thinks this is OK…or so he now says-that the mayor brought these things on himself. Consideration for the children? Don’t they always come first in our lives? Shouldn’t we consider the feelings of children? Maybe not-according to commentators on this blog….not according to those who oppose him-the mayor gets what he deserves, according to Dave-the heck with the kids! They’re collateral damage….these are the messages coming from this blog…I appeal to the administrator to consider his role as a loving father-and not publish insults about the mayor that spew hate on a personal level. Be a mench, Dave….publish what you will about town issues…..leave it at that.

If I had a fundraiser at my house, invited many strangers and knew that, at the time, I had some political opponents who would demonstrate, I would have made a point of not having my children at home. But that’s me. Mr. Doherty, the loving father, apparently did not mind that the demonstrators may have an impact upon his family, because, I believe, that he just wanted to raise a big stink about the protesters by his house. Then get people to complain about the thoughtlessness of the picketers. And, to boot, he and Mr. Gopal used the kid of 17 years of age with the sign to create more publicity. Who does not care about kids? Really.

One more thing (sounding like Detective Columbo here), if the Councilwoman with two young children is concerned about protecting children, why does she continue to align herself with a dubious character like Belmar’s lawless mayor and possibly be found complicit in the Harmon mess, among other things? What if she is found guilty in the lawsuit and faces some type of punishment? Gee, kids, these bad people hate mommy and want to hurt her?

Perhaps the children weren’t home…who knows? But wouldn’t any one of the picketers who just about bursting with joy and glee over their accomplishments of pulling off insults at a home…couldn’t they stop and think …let’s not be too hurtful/hateful with the children home? I’m guessing your cold remarks occur because you aren’t a parent.By the way, I never heard the mayor complain about the rude remarks of the protesters. I did . Also. that 17 year old you referenced apologized for his behavior…admitting that he was paid off to picket…not sure, but didn’t of the other picketers come forward and state they were paid off with Beer? I’m guessing thatthe two gentlemen who organized the protest who were practically dizzy with happiness that they pulled off the event….conducted the pay-offs. Back up to your statement…”Who does not care about kids? Really? Let ‘s go with picket organizers who used young people for their own gain. You know very well that the Florida gentlemen retained those young people to participate…who cares about the youth?? So it all begin with hiring of young people by your fellow opposition members.,

What does Trump have to do with me? You don’t know my thoughts about Trump….although he did not receive my vote for the presidency, I was impressed with his presence in Texas post-Harvey. He and Mrs. Trump were packing cars with supplies. And the President’s conversation with a young boy who suffered from the hurricane.. was sincere. Although the conservation footage was short with no audio, the President’s body language was apparent. He genuinely cared. I like seeing that compassionate side of our President Trump. Boy, you really reached deep into your negative thoughts. I mentioned the following once before. My adored parents were VERY conservative Republicans. I always respected their point of view, although different from mine.(They were great because they raised me to be my own person-they didn’t criticize me for crossing the aisle politically.) And my faceless term refers to individuals who don’t use their real names when posting. We don’t know who they are-ergo, we don’t know their faces. Boy, are you mixed up! But, although not attempting to be funny-glad you used the word “comical” when describing my comments. Your last comment proves my point, you will try to demean or deflect any comments. My point was it seems Democrat liberals seem to call people names if they disagree with their point of view.
