Great Weather Boosts Festival

I thought that absent the ocean backdrop it wouldn’t be as big a draw. I guess I was wrong. It will be interesting to see if having been to the downtown version of the festival they decide to come again next year.

BTW, we’re having a slightly different kind of festival up here this weekend.

The parade ends a few blocks from the new house so we’ll probably head over there in a little while and check it out.

Well only 15 minutes into the video on the seafood fest and no dogs allowed but people have dogs,2 bathrooms for all those people ? hopefully we find some more as the video continues. I heard people complaining after purchasing their food there were no or not enough tables to eat, so you have people sitting on curbs and cement road blocks. Also not a fan of DPW picking up smelly garbage while people are ordering food. There must be a better system and oh NO RECYCLING? where’s Tom when you need him. They also need to provide a decent amount of parking. Why was the elementary school lot off limits? They could have put all the vendors in there to free up space.Hopefully they hold a meeting to improve where they fell short. If we do host an event it should be well orchestrated.

St. Rose and BES should have charged a fee to park in their lots. Missed opportunity. I guess it’s easier to just raise tuition/taxes and not put in the effort.

Does anyone know if the pavilion was booked at all this weekend and if so, who booked it?
I hope to see the food vendors along one side of the aisle and craft/product vendors on the other. If you’re waiting for food, usually not alone, so you can look at goods for sale and send one person over to shop while the other holds place in line. It would free up some of the space for people to walk through. Still not enough room for people to pass this year.
And wtf with the dogs?!?! I’ve never seen so many people attempt to bring them in years past, was there a Facebook invite to bring your dog to the festival this year? No policing whatsoever.

Early day after report – The parking lot is still pretty well trashed. They have to get people out picking up trash by hand. I would keep it closed until the people picking up the trash by handle get it done. It looks to me as if the vendors left too much bagged trash as well.
As for my own thoughts. I would discontinue this event. We got lucky. Every time you do something like this, the chances of nothing bad happening diminish. From what I saw of the people yesterday, we’re taking a big-time chance if we do this again.

I agree Old Man. I think you will find this carnival cost the average homeowner of a home accessed at $500k about 2.18 cents per day. I say get rid of it and only raise my taxes $1.1382 per day.

Actually, I don’t know why I’m complaining, the average increase in taxes is only going to be 4.833 cents per hour. Sounds a lot more palatable that $423 per year.

#9 – I disagree. drove by around 5:30am and it was not “trashed”, dirty yes but nothing crazy. Drive again by at 7am people were out picking up trash, a street sweeper was out and they were removing the barriers from the center of the road.

    some takeaways I had-

    – i thought the location was better then by the water, eastern portion of town was much less crowded and there was much more obvious foot traffic walking main street from years past. Would love to hear from those main st businesses if they saw any form of impact.

-parking was an issue as always, charging to park in lots makes sense, also i wonder why the entire lot was not used.

-it appeared there was empty space by the train station. why not put more food vendors there to spread out or more tables and chairs, cause less congestion

-Friday night was as always the best night for locals to go, would have been nice if they stayed open past 8pm and possibly had bands play longer.

#8 Old Man: yes, we all know your son is a CPA. Big deal.
