Have Your Questions Ready

If I still lived there and I was visited I would say that nobody likes a tax increase but at least it’s a plan.  What is the Democratic plan to get Belmar out of this $35 million hole they left it in and what in either candidate’s background suggests they have any clue what to do about Belmar’s problems.

The Republicans better start doing something…. Most people dont understand a debt statement… But they know what a tax increase does to their pocket…. Manasquan debt statement is 39 million…. Overall NJ has a huge spending problem…. Smartest guy in the room is Administrator because he moved….

To think that the Dems have a solution is nuts. All average people know you must make serious cuts and raise revenues. NJ can’t stop spending money either. The average person knows it is just a matter of time before Belmar becomes a below average town.

Aileen, I would love to sit down and explain how the budget actually works to you or a group. It’s not as simple as this is coming in and this is being spent. There are tricks and trade offs. They always under budget the revenues and over budget appropriations. (More revenue will come in then is budgeted from the tax increase and less will be spent then shown on paper.)

You have to ask for the correct excel sheets, which I have, to get a real picture of what is being spent on what and where the money came from.

Lets set up a class at someones house and I will give a presentation.

Before saying they have no plan to cut spending, why don’t you actually talk to them and ask questions instead of criticising that they are actually going out to the public house by house?

#12 is absolutely right. Everyone is so eager to dismiss out of hand anyone they perceive to be the enemy. Yes it is possible that these two candidates have no real plan and are just a couple of gullible citizens seduced by Matt’s promise of pool parties and endless campaign dollars; all they have to do is say these lines.
But maybe they are concerned citizens who are dedicating their time to a thankless position on the council in order to make a difference. No one here can give a little bit of your time to find out what their plan is? Yes, it may be rubbish and they are just Doherty’s latest social experiment (like Nicolay, McGovern, Brennan)but maybe they really to have a plan to cut spending.
I addition, talking to them gives us all an opportunity to inform them about the kind of man Matt is and give them information that proves it. Engaging with them as informed Belmar voters will be more effective in Breaking Matt’s spell than dismissing them.
Take some time to learn, then make the judgement. That goes for every candidate running.

I waited and waited but my door was never knocked upon. I am assuming that a) it was too hot for canvassing or b) they were given explicit instructions on what houses to avoid. It’s a bummer. I had a whole list of questions.
