I know that surveys like this one can be highly subjective, and I know that we’re a small town with big summer crowds that skew the “per capita” figures, but still…..tied for 1st?

Personally, I would love to hear what EACH CANDIDATE THINKS on this issue. Do Nicolay and Burke support the current administration’s defiance of Belmar Ordinance 17-4.1 Not to exceed the ratios established into law in NJ: NJSA 40:48-2,40 and NJSA 33:1-12.14 “in the public interest to reduce the number of such licenses ( not increase ) in the Borough ( 1966 Code 4-4.1 ?
That’s because the young drunks that come to Belmar are allowed to do whatever they want. All summer long the only two places that the cops are at is D’Jais and the police station. Other than that they have full run of the town. Once these kids know that they can get away with everything, they tell their friends that Belmar is the place to party.
Who needs statistical facts since the mere perception that Belmar is a drunk-town is pathetic in itself.
Where is Ken Pringle when you. Need him. It took 20 years to clean up Belmar and within a short period of time we are back to drunkmar. The good news we didn’t make the # 1 heroin list yet. Washington Post cover today.

I would like any member of the administration to express their views on this subject. Let’s have a debate. This is NOT what the people(most) of Belmar want
#2, two things we should do right away is disallow the borough from creating liquor licenses out of thin air, which they can currently do when the establishment is on borough property. That’s a big mistake that I fear will come back to bite us.
The other is to keep the seasonal licenses truly seasonal and not be extended every year to be 3 seasonal.
Wow, Admin, didn’t think that a local authority has the authority to create liquor licenses out of thin air. At least I hope not. Friend of mine had a license and said that he has to follow State reg’s. I have no idea about seasonal licenses and reg’s regarding them or what license laws are on borough property. There are a vast amount of bars along the Jersey shore for our young adult visitors during the summer as well as ourselves year round. I see cabs picking young adults up and, yes, infrequently, I hear them returning. I would just fluff the pillow and turn over. Less liquor licenses in Belmar is not the answer. There is always a cab to take visitors to another place which it appears they do now. And, I would think the Police Department is doing the best to their ability. Never ever negative about a PD. I agree with most that is posted here regarding debt, this governing body and their priorities, etc., but I draw the line regarding Belmar’s stat’s and the negative remarks about the summer months. A few of you have mentioned moving and I understand that. If you believe that it is that bad here, then perhaps, it is best for you to move on. Wishing you the best. I am staying. For now anyway. Admin-political donors will always be privileged with their license. Djais and 10ave burrito are the main ones that’s always favored, 9th ave pier too.

Try this scenario on for size:
Big storm coming this week, lots of rain, more flooding in south end of town – still no pipe to alleviate problem after funding was approved and everyone was happy…
Lots of booze available, people flee their homes from approaching flood, go to bars to get tipsy, more business for the bar owners.
“Hooray, go Matt, go Matt!!!” shout the bar owners as they count their money.
Residents of south end are outraged and vow to recall mayor.
