Where to even begin with this??
1.”The blame lies with Ken Pringle for filing frivolous lawsuit after frivolous lawsuit” What Doherty always fails to mention is that HE LOST EVERY ONE!!!!!!! The BLAME Mr. Mayor (and your shame) is that you believe you are above the law. Your blatant disregard for any law or ruling by the courts is what people should be questioning.
    2. “It’s going to be a low turnout. It’s like a Seinfeld episode, it’s an election about nothing”. WE ARE NOT LAUGHING! We find NOTHING funny about Doherty and his rubber stamp council. I personally find his constant contempt for the law appalling. How his supporters can justify his disregard for the law is beyond my comprehension.
    3. “How can we put into effect a law that our attorney was telling us was unconstitutional and unenforceable ”
When Doherty ran for council against Bean way back when he PRAISED this same law as being open and transparent! He loved it! Now that he needs to build a war chest for his campaign it’s suddenly unconstitutional.
THE SPECIAL ELECTION IS SEPTEMBER 27!! VOTE NO!!!!!! To Matt Doherty’s manipulation of the law for his own benefit.
Oh and Mr Mayor? You were elected to uphold and enforce the laws and ordinances on the books here in Belmar. THAT is your job! You work for the taxpayers, not the other way around.

Well said, Katrina! And all this money isn’t just for this year’s campaign. He’ll be wheeling it around for years.

Borough legal service contracts aren’t performance based …. Belmar taxpayers just hemorrhage money …. while attorneys blow smoke in the M&C’s face.

I am flabbergasted by the Mayor’s comments to the media. Does he think the people of Belmar are stupid? How can anyone in this town support him?! He blames the Republican party for the protest when they had nothing to do with it; he blames the kid and the sign at the protest for hurting his family even though he’s pushing it on every media outlet he can find to get sympathy and attract votes; he blames Ken Pringle for the lawsuits because of his own total disregard for the law; and after signing an agreement with a developer which removed the biggest eyesore in the Borough of Belmar, he blames the developer and his tenant claiming they made bad business decisions. It’s always the fault of someone else…never the fault of the mayor. The Borough records show that it was Mayor Doherty, Jennifer Nicolay and Brian Magovern, all on council at the time the agreement was signed, that approved and signed the redeveloper’s agreement, and when it came time to finally vote on the long delayed license transfer, Nicolay voted no and Doherty didn’t even have the courage to come to the meeting to vote. It’s time for a change.

We obtained the Scarinci invoices through an OPRA request. The total for this case is actually $43,591.13, just through 6/30/2016. The $21,000 figure in the article was the amount of the invoice covering June. (April produced the invoices as one packet, and Caitlyn Bahrenburg, who is an excellent reporter, thought it was one invoice, and took the number from the last page. She has already corrected the online version of the article.)
