Everybody knows the comments are the best part of this blog and the biggest driver of the hit counts.  Thank you to all who contribute.

I am happy to report that Belmar resident Ted Ehmann happened to end up being the person to contribute the 10,000th comment.  Some of you may have heard of him.

As the 10,000th commenter Mr. Ehmann wins free lifetime access to the Common Sense For Belmar website and dinner with Mayor Doherty.

My friends and I are a bit jealous, especially about the dinner with the mayor. Enjoy. Feast local.

Funny if it had been Claire, an ironic boasting item for her list of achievements. Congratulations, Mr. Ehmann.

It figures I think I was 9,999. Now he’ll be insufferable to live with and dinner with the mayor, I wanted to win this so much. I think I’m going to do an OPRA to check the numbers. It’s a conspiracy! I want a recount!

Bill, I’m gonna demonstrate, do a sit-in somewhere. Ok, at the marina, yes, at the marina, no, wait, by the damaged toilet building at Maclearie Park. Got it, in front of Dave’s house! Hope Colleen does not arrest me.

#3- Thanks for noting my achievements-even if done in a underhanded manner…that said… I intend to continue to boastfully list my life accomplishments…starting with elementary school, through high school and college. Your interest inspires me to let everyone know about me on this blog. Here’s the first item of phase 2 of my accomplishments …graduated 11th in my class of nearly 400 students in 1960 from Long Branch High School…Shore Regional and Mobmouth Regional weren’t built yet…so Long High School was the sending district HS for West Long Branch, Oceanport, Sea Bright, etc. That’s why my graduating class was so big… keep tuned… Many more accomplishments to follow …thanks for opening up this topic, and renewing my opportunity to brag about myself!

13-So glad you asked… As a long-time member of The Belmar Woman’s Club I’m involved in many charitable endeavors which include raising funds for the Belmar First Aid. I was recently part of an initiative called Belmaropoly…a Belmar version of Monopoly .All of the proceeds went to Belmar service groups.. Fire departments, First Aid, etc. In 2008 … As a breast cancer survivor … I founded Belmar Cares….a support group for women experiencing Breast cancer… Belmar women are involved …I bring prepared dinners to St Rose Church…. Supporting the St Vincent de Paul food initiative…also support Circle of Friends HYDAS… An organization that out reaches to intellectually-challenged young adults…as a retired teacher… Volunteered during the first ever summer camp this past summer..personally offer financial support to the fire companies and First Aid when they hold their drives for money..as a retired teacher, have been involved with the Belmar Elementary School as part of the initiative called strategic planning … And have been called on by the superintendent to assist in other school matters…tell me, #13, what do you do for Belmar NOW?

#14 with all due respect what matters have you assisted at in the school? If they are calling on citizens – your words “And have been called on by the superintendent to assist in other school matters…” what are my tax dollars paying for if they are using citizens instead of the paid professionals? Why not call on the parents if they are in need???

16-Here’s how it goes…the superintendent has outreached to the Belmar Woman’s Club to assist with reading programs-preparing students for state testing..I’m a member of the club…also I have been asked to sit on the communications committee as part of the strategic planning..an initiative previously mentioned in my commentary…..also was asked to read to students for Spooky Story night and Dr. Seuss’s birthday-Belmar Woman’s Club has also been involved with assisting with charitable projects through the school nurse….all of my involvement has been at a volunteer level…..the model for strategic planning cites community representatives…as a former teacher at Belmar School, and board of education member. I’ve been approached to serve as a volunteer resource from time-to-time…I know for a fact that there are women who go into the school and read stories to the children-I don’t belong to this organization…just to point out that there are volunteer programs in the school…..at one point women from The Belmar Woman’s Club assisted in the after-school homework lab…..and we raised money to buy musical instruments for the school band a while back. BWC was asked to help with the financing of a defibrillator a year ago. I can only tell you that with my long history with Belmar School (22 years as a teacher and six years as a board of ed. member…and a volunteer several years ago (as a retiree) teaching English to parents of Hispanic backgrounds) I’m thrilled to be called on to assist in any way possible-it’s like going back home!

#17 Thanks for the clarification – the school should make these programs known so if others wish they can volunteer as well and that if parents need the services they are available.

As a member of the strategic planning committee I really haven’t been called back to the school other than one maybe two update meetings on where the school is.
