Hope to God I ‘m not religated to a wheel chair soon. Not much room on main street sidewalks.
It is time to reign this all in and take back sidewalk access for convenience and safety. “Sorry restaurants, we are changing the law and you have 90 days to comply.” This takes leadership which unfortunately this current mayor and council have no experience with.
Half of 10th Ave Burtitos outside bar is on boro property. Who got that payoff?

Time for a complete audit and overhaul of this whole sidewalk and dining fiasco! Get all the permits and permission papers. Go measure them all out and then mark the approved area with colored bricks. They set up over the line, summons. You drink over the line, summons. Three strikes and you lose your outside dining.
Nobody cares about Pat’s sidewalk because nobody ever walks past the place. They have to go in.

It started with Jacks having a larger awning than anyone else. Connie Delaportas fought to have a huge awning even though her sidewalk wasn’t as wide as 10th ave Jacks. Federicis followed Jacks to come out the same width . When the new lights were placed someone in charge should have noticed if Federicis comes out that far and new lights go in you can’t get through the sidewalk. Connie Delaportas building hasn’t been occupied in about 7 years.How long can your windows be covered up ? How about periodic inspections to make sure this has no affect on neighboring properties,or just a certificate to prove you have been keeping up with extermination for rodents and bugs. Any unoccupied restaurants/buildings should be required to do so. 10th Ave Burrito, no idea how that happened. I have a suggestion to any official in office .Walk these areas and see if there is a 4’clearance as per code from any structure such as poles,lighting ,etc. This is an ADA requirement .The 4′ path needs to be a CLEAR path ,no obstructions.It has been mentioned on this sight that those in office check this website. I suggest on this website a section to point out violations for code officials.
If they are hired to be a code enforcement official, shouldn’t they know boro codes? It seems to me the bars control the mayor and council and police dept. Do what we want or no favors for you!

Outdoor dining, cafe is helpful to support the success of the local businesses, a lot of people prefer dining outside at the shore it gives the Main Street establishments a better chance at success. Maybe the positioning of the light poles could have been better selected and situated to allow for same. For belmar to be successful as a whole businesses and households everyone in town, the schools etc., we have to come together and offer compromise solutions so everyone is in a good position. A dying economy on Main Street empty store fronts will not help those property owners and their ability to pay taxes, and help assist in getting the borough out of debt
I’d love to talk to the planning board about creating wider thruways along the sidewalks while maintaining outdoor dining. I’ll be away for the next meeting. The following meeting should be Sept. 16th. I’m sure everyone who’s so upset will be there to actually make change, right?
If you walk 10th Ave you’ll see that Fed’s has a cut out in their outdoor seating area to allow for the movement around the stupid poles. Appreciate that when walking with stroller but so glad it’s not a double stroller any time we walk through town.
