Jim Bean in a 2014 letter to 1st District residents:
Now about the Seafood Festival. I love seafood and I love the Seafood Festival. I bring my family to it every year. The problem is that it’s gotten too big. It’s becoming overcrowded and traffic in town during the event has been chaotic and is becoming dangerous.
I think we advertise it too much. We should not encourage more people to come to Belmar than we have the capacity to accommodate. I say keep the Festival, but let’s tone it down a bit.
It just me 40 minutes to get from Avon to my house on C Street. I hope nobody needs an ambulance today.

I just heard an ad on WRAT telling their listeners to come to Belmar for the Seafood Festival.
After the Seafood Festival last year Brian complained it was too big. He said it at the Council meeting. He was more complaining about the traffic. They are making money today.
Someone should ask the mayor how many calls were answered by the 1st aid today. Then they should know that other towns offered their rigs and Members because our guys had their hands full. Certainly not a good situation. 5 people on Ocean Ave. on the same block at the same time needing aid. Big buses using streets not sized for them.
How is a mile square town supposed to handle this and why should we have to? If one of the people who live in this town year round needed help today where would they have been on the list. This festival is not what it was. It is now a threat to residents as well as visitors. We shouldn’t need a tragedy before something is changed.
It was almost like Woodstock without the famous bands and naked girls, and no rain.
