If you look at the sign further back…no smoking on the beach!

Actually that parking lot is on the border between two different beaches. To the left is Plaice Cove, which is owned by Hampton. Although the town has stated that a smoking ban is unenforceable and wouldn’t be enforced, it did agree to put up no-smoking signs to placate this local anti-tobacco zealot who managed to get a smoking ban through at the last town meeting. I’ve written about this.

The beach to the right is Hampton North Beach, which is state owned. Smoking is permitted on that beach.

#10 Smoking is the least of our worries here in Belmar. I was sitting on 20th Ave when about a group of 10 people came with enough food for a wedding and disposed of their fried chicken bones by tossing them in the air to the beat of their dance music. Beach etiquette is dead!

So the resident parking only is at the state owned beach?

The town owned beaches all seem to have resident parking. (There’s one way at the south end that I haven’t been to yet.) I don’t think there’s oceanside resident parking at the state owned beaches but the town owns a number of parking lots scattered around near the beach and they have resident spots.
