1st wasn’t there a waitress last year that claimed she was not tipped either and turned out to be a hoax. Second the waitress was not doing her job following up on the order. She should have immediately gone to the manager or owners and advised of the problem. If this was done the manager or owners should have taken the food off the bill. This is not a very well run establishment.

#1, The story last year was a waitress that was gay and she wasn’t tipped based on the fact that the people didn’t agree with her standards on life. It was a hoax and she paid for it. I have a feeling that this is some what of a hoax that happened at D’jais and that this girl Jess shouldn’t have gone to social media to gain attention.

Now perhaps D’Jais may make it up to her if she becomes a deliverer of votes this Fall. Free drinks, a little something extra in her Christmas stocking, so to speak. Don’t feel bad for her, as getting stiffed sometimes is part of the wait-staff deal.

The story of the D’Jais waitress stiffed for her tip made international news. The APP made sure readers knew this is a “landmark” restaurant, (a term usually reserved for architectural masterpieces) and mentioned it was known for its philanthropic activities (presumably the sand castle contest). Since their philanthropy includes gifting the Dem party hundreds of new voters each year, the mayor weighed in on how terrible these patrons were to an employee of his favorite bar. No mention was made that D’Jais has been the scourge of the south end of Belmar for decades, attracking nearly a thousand disorderly “tourists” every night who disrupt the peace, fight, litter and destroy property until about 4 AM on most weekends.

Last months’s Belmar police blotter (CS 8/6) provided a fact-based glimpse into these “tourists” who visit Belmar in the summer. Although the period covered was just 2 1/2 weeks (July 2-19), it listed 36 crimes. Not surprisingly, 30 of those arrested (83%) were people in their 20’s or early 30’s. Only 3 (8%) were from Belmar, 90% were visitors from NY, PA and the rest of Jersey including Bayonne, Trenton and Hoboken.

And as usual, 64% of the arrests occurred in the vicinity of 18th and Ocean Ave’s around D’Jais. Last summer, those statistics were just under 50%. The police are to be complimented for cracking down on disorderly conduct occurring there. But with a $3+ million public safety budget, perhaps Belmar residents should rethink the costs of this current “tourism” strategy or at a minimum ask D’Jais to pay their fair share of our police budget… just 50-64%!! Remember this is an area zoned as residential, not commercial.

To address this chronic issue, the Belmar Police decided this month to publish the police blotter without exact addresses, just listing Ocean ave or 18th without identifying the cross streets. This will avoid further embarrassing D’Jais. So we know more than dozen arrests occurred this month on Ocean Ave or 18th, we just don’t know where!
