Get a real job, being mayor is not working out for you. And that small element is 60% percent of the town that disagrees with you putting the town into substantial debt when we can rebuild OUR pavilions for less just like every other town did. Anyone can understand that every town must rebuild to hurricane standards and new municipal codes. Jim Bean is referring to the over-sized and overpriced pavilions you continue to shove down our throats. We do not need a gourmet kitchen in the Taylor. The petition supporting the Lake Como Pipe grant stopped you from sneaking funding for the controversial over priced 5th pavilion into an ordinance. Guess what Matt we are watching you and all your false statements continue to come back to haunt you. More residents now know how desperate and deceitful you are. Just build put back what was there and, YES TO HURRICANE STANDARDS duh!

While I agree they will do anything to not lose power in town, it’s the voters’ fault they are there to begin with! With all the information provided on this site, and at town meetings, if we held an election tomorrow, Matt would win. And it’s not just because of Frank Sementra delivering votes! It’s because the vast majority of people actual don’t vote, and the few thousand that do, are stupid, and buy all the crap Matt and his puppets are selling!
They pull levers for Republicans in almost ever election more times than Democrats on every level except locally. It’s bizarre!

The south end of town is furious with the mayor. They were used and are scared. The mayor stated the federal grant would be lost if he did not bundle it with funding for the Taylor. Independent verification with the DEP confirmed the mayor lied and was just intimidating the south end residents to get what he wants which is his choice of an overpriced pavilion built. We need a nice replacement of the Taylor that functions to serve the beach tourists with a small meeting area just like it was. And we need the mayor to listen to the residents. We do not need to spend 4.1 million to build the Taylor Pavilion. FMEMA is only paying us 2.8 million for all 5 pavilions that were lost. We need to build with those funds just like the vote NO, campaign wanted.

REBUILD THE TAYLOR PAVILION AS IT WAS BEFORE THE
    STORM

Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty and his Council want the residents to suspend critical thinking regarding the $4.1 million cost of rebuilding Taylor Pavilion. They tell us that $4 million is a good price for such a building, and by using FEMA money, insurance money, and “buy a board money” the building can be built “for free.” I ask the residents to think logically about this. If Mantoloking can build a 15,000 sq.ft., three-story municipal complex at a cost of $5 million [and only bonding $3 million of it]and our neighbor Avon can build their pavilion for under $1.5 million [without bonding anything], why is it costing Belmar $4.1 million to build Taylor and why do we need to borrow nearly the whole amount?

The answer is that it’s business as usual in Belmar. We paid our clean-up contractor AshBritt-Conti, who had ties to the mayor’s wife, three times the going rate for Sandy clean-up and then we paid Epic Construction, who also had ties to the mayor’s wife, double the amount for our boardwalk that Seaside paid for theirs. Belmar must enjoy burning money. Yes, this is the exact same Taylor Pavilion plan at the exact same price that the voters rejected in last year’s special election, yet on July 7,the mayor and council approved a bond for residents to pay $4.1 million to construct it anyway.

Several weeks ago the 10th Ave. safety building, now being financed separately from Taylor, was bonded by the mayor and council and will cost the beach utility $2.2 million to construct. The public restrooms that were part of the rejected bond were paid for using a different bond earlier this year, so the cost is still $7 million just like it was last year. Mayor Doherty is telling fairy tale stories and Councilwoman Jennifer Nicolay keeps repeating them, saying “it’s free, it’s free.”

But much of the money they plan to use lawfully belongs to the beach utility, and I think that when the judge in the current lawsuit rules that way, the taxpayers will be stuck holding the bag. I say rebuild the Taylor Pavilion with what was there before the storm. We all loved it back then, what changed?

I still don’t understand how all of these massive homes sell along the Sea Girt and Spring Lake for $3M and under AND THAT INCLUDES THE LAND THAT COMES WITH IT! Belmar already owns the land. $4.1 is JUST FOR CONSTRUCTION. That is ridiculous. If it costs that much more to build to FEMA specs then perhaps we should not build to FEMA specs and replace the pavilions on our own when they get destroyed in the future. If it costs $1M to build without adhering to FEMA specs, we could replace that pavilion 4 times for the same amount of money!

I totally agree with #10 comment, The Mayor just wants what he wants, not what the people want or what should be. The Pavilion is not the only thing I think he is sneaking funding for, look at his little pet project over on 14th avenue. Its very clear they did not rebuild what was once there. I’m just curious what he is trying to prove or what the pay off for him is in building this house that clearly does not even belong there, and what ties does Ms. Keefe have to the mayor or other town officials that entitle her to this house that she does not deserve, nor did she work for it or suffer for it. Looks like the best thing that ever happened to her was the storm damaging her home. Without the mayor she would never have been able to ever rebuild a home like this. this situation taken over by the Mayor is similar to the Pavilion’s. Someone got greedy and what once was not good enough, once an opportunity presented it self ,greed went for bigger, better, and not necessary .He has his hands in all that is foul around town.

At this point, with all that has happened with the various actions (lawsuits, petitions, etc.) against him, all the mayor can do is launch an offense of deception to counteract the actions against his “program” which are on the horizon.
