Monmouth Dem Machine No Match For Lakewood’s Vaad

Keady, Phillipson lose one district 428-7, another 157-0

From Paul Mulshine:

……..The district, which includes lower Monmouth County and two towns in Ocean County, has been solidly Republican for as long as I can remember.

Nonetheless when I ran into Keady on the campaign trail, he promised me he had excellent prospects.

That turned out to be true for a couple of other Democrats running in Monmouth County. Two traditionally Republican Assembly seats were taken by Democrats as part of an anti-Christie wave that looks like it will cost the state GOP four total seats in the lower house.

But Keady got creamed. And when I went to examine the results a few days after his defeat, I came across this rather startling statistic from one election district in the Ocean County town of Lakewood: 157-0.

Zero? Most politicians would be ecstatic to win a suburban election district by a 2-1 margin. A 157-0 margin is unheard of. And that wasn’t even the GOP’s strongest district in Lakewood. There was one that the Republicans won by 428-7.

I’ve seen similar results in prior elections in Lakewood. The reason is not far to seek. The town has the most sophisticated political machine in the state and perhaps the nation…………….

……………(Senator Robert) Singer says the Vaad can now influence 8,000 or so votes. The decision how to award them amounts to a 16,000-vote swing in a statewide election. That could easily represent the winning margin in a close race. No wonder the politicians line up for those interviews.

Keady didn’t even get invited for an interview this year. But he’s something of a 6-foot-4 Energizer Bunny and he told me he’s confident the Democrats can win the Lakewood votes even though most Democrats, like him, oppose the community on those three social issues.

That’s why no other town don’t wants anything to do with the VAAD.

When a Belmar vote is “lopsided” in favor of a Democrat, you hint that corruption or vote rigging is the reason and analyze every detail. Don’t you find it suspect that a candidate didn’t get ANY votes? Oh, that’s not funky at all, because the winner was a Republican! Hypocrite.

#3, First of all those voters in Lakewood were real people who showed up at the polls.

Secondly I certainly care more about elections in Belmar that are lost by 17 votes after we put so much effort into them than how Lakewood voted in an assembly election where the winners won by many thousands of votes anyway.

And by the way, you wouldn’t have even known about it if I hadn’t have published it, right?

Known about what — an election in Lakewood I could care less about?? Gee, thanks. BTW, I didn;t write about it. YOU did. if you don;t care about elections in Lakewood, why are you writing about them? And there you go again.. People who vote by absentee ballot aren’t “real voters” according to you. So, you get to decide who does and doesn’t get to vote? Well, obviously not, or you wouldn’t have gotten crushed. LOL

#8. You are the one who posted that you could care less about the election in Lakewood. The administrator thought it was interesting enough to post about it. Not everything he posts is about Belmar. If you re-read the admins post, he says he found the 157-0 vote “startling”, so I would not say that he did not think there was something possibly wrong or at the very least strange there. I certainly do not suggest that you have to agree with everything posted here, but don’t make a statement about not caring, then go on to make comments about it. You do care, you are interested, as your comments show. I think we all do or we would not be on here.
