More Squeaky Wheels Needed

One squeaky wheel by the name of Maria Florio,  who attends all the Council meetings and does quite a lot of squeaking about conditions in her neighborhood, got the grease in the form of this sternly worded sign by her house.  I assume the Borough installed this for her.

Photo submitted by a reader. Thank you, reader!

I’m glad Maria got her sign but you shouldn’t have to complain a hundred times before the town takes action like this to help keep the peace in residential neighborhoods.  These signs should be up all over the south end and anywhere in town there are bars or rowdy summer rentals.  And the town needs to back up these signs with real zero tolerance of disorderly behavior.

I had a buyer back out of a contract on a house on 16th Ave(thankfully for them at the time, we did find them something better) because the officer assigned to the block where they were buying told them “you will never have peace” drunks will vomit and urinate on your lawn.. at the time I was being told by others in town that the area was cleaned up and that there was zero tolerance.. I told them to call this officer. I thought, if anything, an officer assigned to keep the peace on that block would tell them to call him if there were disturbances and that they would be handled. At least he was honest in admitting that the laws were not being enforced and would not be. I called the Mayor at the time, Matt, and he told me that my buyers had just found something else, they just wanted out of the deal and to end working with me.. “all buyers are liars”.. They ultimately purchased, with my assistance, two towns to the north .. a town without DJais, Bar A, and the crowd they bring.. and are very happy. I am happy to see that the town is at least pretending to want to do something.. maybe it will lead to better things.

Pretending is the key word…..sign has been up for years by nme, and all it does is get slapped by the drinks. Enforcement of quality of life laws are lacking.

Who paid for the sign? And why if only one sign was that the selected are? I guess mrs florio pulled some strings or knows someone. The sign does not look like it’s in compliance with dot regs or the other warning signs in town?

Believe me Maria Florio does not have any strings to pull. If the town did put that sign up it’s because she’s spent hours at the mic trying to get the town to address the quality of life issues in her neighborhood. Watch the tapes of the meetings and you’ll see.

I’m guessing it was an old location of a sign that was replaced. When we started the neighborhood network we were given signs 12th thru 16th. Personally I’m over them . I prefer enforcement over the signs. 20 Years ago it gave us security thinking we were all one for the same cause. Community Policing was born.It enabled police officers to get out of cars and into neighborhoods. Knowing residents and visitors is imperative in a community like ours.

Signs don’t fix quality of life issues, walking patrols do. When Belmar was working its way back from the now returned rowdy crowds there were walking patrols every “bar night” who issued tickets for public drinking, urinating, and noise. These patrols no longer exist. The Acting Chief will say different but his walking patrols now are all congregated around Bar A, Main Street, and D’jais. The wild crowds are left to roam the streets going and returning from the bars drinking, urinating, and screaming between 10pm to 3am with minimal law enforcement. This is Matt Doherty and the current councils legacy. Thanks!

9 – The problem now is that the Regular Officers hide in their cars and headquarters as we depend on Special Officers to perform our law enforcement. The whole management of our taxpayer paid police department is a huge joke. It’s time for an outsider to clean-up the decades of mismanagement by inept locals who have continuously been socially promoted to run the department.

I am highly ethical..I always tell my buyers to do research and provide them with tools to do so. I disclose all.. in the end they are happy and I can sleep at night knowing I did all I could to help them make the best decision for them not my bottom line.

#13 you post inaccurate information all the time, you think it’s your way or no way. You throw stones and threats and have an opinion about everything but no one else is entitled to an opinion of their own. Maybe you shouldn’t throw stones when you live in a glass house
