New Ad From The SID

So the SID feels that Belmar doesn’t get crowded enough during the summer.  So it produces ads to encourage more people to visit. But the SID thinks that it’s too hard to find a place to park so the SID petitions the Council to start charging for parking.  But the reason why charging for parking will make it easier to find a parking spot is because many people won’t pay for parking and won’t come here if they have to pay to park. Wouldn’t it be easier to just stop encouraging tens of thousands of people to come here and then the people who live here won’t have to pay to park in their own town?

BTW, Chefs International’s miniature golf and their 9th Ave Pier, are both featured prominently in this ad.  Because it’s on borough-owned property it doesn’t pay a dime into the SID.  Neither do owners of any other properties that are under redevelopment agreements.

Trying to reason like a council member – More visitors, more cars, more need to build a parking garage at taxpayer expense. A garage means less street congestion, like at the seafood festival, remember the fiasco last summer, so why would people complain? “Shut up, obstructionists, be ‘reasonable’.”

What’s missing? The tourism act that allowed
Belmar to establish a Tourism Commission, stressed lodging. We have several very good B&Bs in Belmar. It is very difficult to buy and run a successful B&B, not to mention exhausting and risky. These type of businesses attract the kind of tourist (year-round ) that the residents and Main Street businesses want. So after all these years, how come not one B$B owner is ever appointed to the Tourism Commission. Frank Sementa of D’Jais is repeatedly appointed, he never comes to meetings. There is a porch shot on the new video but no heading saying quaint Bed and Breakfasts. It has always seemed like those who decide repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot. Last year, was the first time the adjective “tacky” was used in many international reviews online.Just sayin.

What has Sid done since it always collects money from taxpayers and does not show how monies are spent

Can Doherty’s puppet Sal… or anyone else from the BBP please explain to me any positive effect this whole program has had on Belmar ? I frequent Mr. Shrimp because of a couple reasons. One, he stood up against the SID. Two, he didn’t sign that letter telling people who they should vote for. Local business owners should always stay out of politics. Remember, eventually they may back the wrong horse.

Mr. Shrimp is always good. Good food, prompt service, Clean and you can hear each other and enjoy your meal at the same time. Well run company. No SID intervention needed. And, guess what? There is ample parking!
