Nothing To Be Proud Of

Belmar Elementary gets A for “diversity”,  C for academics.

I would be much happier if it was the other way around.  What people look like and where they decide to live or go to school should be nobody’s business but their own.  Why would we want people moving in or out based on skin color?  Who cares?  It’s a completely ridiculous metric to use to rate anything.

Sit down, shut up and listen. 2+5=7. Any questions? 12 divided by 3=4. Any questions? Again sit down and shut up and listen. I would rather send my kid to a school with an F for diversity and an A for academics. Dumb white liberals

Not to worry Dave, from the comments in the last couple posts, its the children that are too stupid to “grasp the material”. Nothing to do with the school system.

Maybe the title should read “Belmar Elementary students gets A for “diversity”, a C for academics”

The problem is the BOE and Admin have no clue how to solve the issues. Some say most of the kids do not speak English, well how about solving that problem instead of using it as an excuse. Someone mentioned the higher rated schools that have the taxes to hire the best, that is partially true you need standards and a plan to achieve that goal. Belmar has no plan on how to improve the learning of the kids. Without standards and a plan to solve the problems that cause the poor results you will never improve. There was a school that had poor attendance, they made an effort to find out why the kids were not attending schools which was the parents did not have washing machines and the kids were embarrassed to come with dirty clothing. The school bought a washing machine and attendance skyrocketed problem solved.

I got it. Lets legalize marijuana and encourage all of our teachers to get high before coming to work. Perhaps the experience will open their minds to a more “think outside the box” way of teaching. Apparently the present way doesn’t work. Gov. Phil must be onto something.

I Have a masters in teaching and have no idea how to do common core math. Imagine the parents of these immigrant children? You are all responding to Mrs. Murphy’s emphasis on the affective domain. True, the bottom line is, if they are obviously not going to perform well, at least they won’t feel bad in the process. Most teachers do not do “flexible seating” because they actually take attendance. Too bad the “diversity” in the Belmar school isn’t the result of Chinese and Korean immigrants. Then the school would have an A+ rating.

#8 – Those children who came here from 1880-1920 didn’t speak English and were thrown into English only classes not knowing one word of English. So, I guess we can agree these children today aren’t up to the intellectual abilities of those children over a hundred years ago. The “teachers” and the idiotic BOE (Mark Twain had them figured out.) are fully aware of this but continue to lie to us.

Of course Belmar has no plan to improve the learning of the kids. Intellect is like the ability to run fast – speed can’t be taught. Well, same with learning – You can’t make a Dr. Werner von Braun out of “student” who only has the capacity to learn up t a 5-6 grade level.

Instead of blaming Betsy and non speaking kids did it ever occur to the BOE and Adm to visit highly rated schools to see what they do???? Belmar is not the only town in NJ that has kids that do not speak English. Making excuses make you all look foolish.

Instead of blaming the BOE did it ever occur to you that they are working hard to make the best of the situation? What excuses were made regarding the school. Give a quote and reference where it can be found. While you’re at it, give the school with over 50% economically disadvantaged and English as second language students that’s doing better.

WOW BES! 50%economically disadvantaged?Makes me wonder at $26,000 per student are you saying you still can’t educate them? So no dollar amount even with increases will give these children an advantage? Then what’t the point?Without speaking English you can’t communicate efficiently to learn any subject. What a mess.A vicious cycle with no answers.Just raise taxes it’s for the children right?

I’m shocked with the money we spend per student Mrs. Murphy feels the need to have a go fund me approach for a new seating environment. Stating 50% disadvantage students to encourage giving money . Who knew the chairs you sit in where going to make you smarter? This is completely absurd. It’s hard to believe with all the million dollar homes in town we are looked at as a poverty area.Does anyone see the insanity?Oh that’s right those are their 2nd homes and won’t send their kids to BES and I can’t blame them

#23 and everyone else- I don’t think you took the time to understand Ms Murphy’s donorschoice.org page, for starters all school districts seem to budget very little to the teachers for items, projects etc, often requiring them to reach in their on pockets or for go the lesson, activity etc; this site also has codes wherein the Corp sponsors match the donation; a lot of teachers and educators seek assistance but it’s not as simple as a go fund me creation, the teacher requesting their project be considered has to submit a full paper, costs etc; it has to be reviewed and approved. I think before everyone knocks her down you should read her thoughts on the benefit and her plan on same. I think the extra initiative she is showing to acquire additional resources shows dedication.

#25my comment comes from the numbers previously mentioned,26,000 per student? If Mrs.Murphy has 10 students 260 thousand dollars was collected in taxes to pay for those students. Where’s the money? How did the 50% of low income students pay 260 thousand dollars? My point is the residents who own homes in town are not low income. I’m guessing the low income are renters of these homes. Their poverty of food and clothing or even rental payments should have nothing to do with the money the school was given to educate the children properly. I applaud Mrs. Murphy for getting the money and in no way am questioning her dedication. I still have a problem with the discrepancies in the numbers .Where is all the money for all the classrooms? It is sad with all the money allocated for the school it is still a dysfunctional business and more money will never be enough or the answer until a full overhaul takes place and the right leadership is truly for the children. Imagine giving Mrs. Murphy 260 thousand to pay herself, her costs of the building and teach her children . I know there are other costs but someone is making a lot of money and taking it from where it is supposed to go.It’s also BS that teachers should pay for needed supplies . With the money given to that school it should be a topnotch education with everything provided that’s needed. Rant over. Just so sick of the thieves and greed of the few at the expense of all.

#s 25&26 – You’re both focusing on the wrong area of interest here. Yes, the money has importance of course but the main issues are the BOE constantly lies concerning the status of the children attending the school and their abilities (vast majority of the children of illegal aliens and minorities are failing). The system used to “educate” our own children is hopelessly obsolete as well. A new idea of education must be found. That would mean I think a shutting down of the brick and mortar school buildings we see these days and some sort of independent system put in its place. It would probably mean a computer based idea of education with few actual teachers. This is the future whether anyone likes it or not. I feel sorry for teachers but their occupation is obsolete. Just like when I was a boy I had a job as a pin setter in a bowling alley. As we all know, that job is long gone. Jobs disappear over time. Look at the horses in our country. After the automobile was invented, horses more or less became obsolete. That’s just the way of things.
