the building is 1985 vintage … a lot younger than most of the town housing stock.

Taxpayers just paid $25K to fix the roof and about $50K for A/C replacement.

Repair and replace is the way to go … the only improvement that I would support is solar … if the site is a candidate.

How bout laying off some un-needed office baggage. Lease out the desks they once sat at. Revenue savings of salaries and rent, can then be used for repairs without a tax increase.

Put more services online less need for walk-in office space reduce reuse and save us money. Plenty of office space in that church we seem to own.

The thing is we should be looking to do everything to get money. For example, if we own the bikes the bicycle police ride in the summer, sell the bikes and get what we can. Then of course, we won’t have to hire those kids to ride around and endanger themselves and the taxpayers if/when they get hurt of killed. We could cut up the military junk around town and sell the metal to Mazza on memorial Drive. Of course, there should me 10% layoffs of all personnel employed by the town as well.

    I agree with #3.
Also, fix what we have, we don’t have any money for new buildings or for new purchases of properties.
Was it Doherty or Pringle that wanted to do a land swap with Jaeger Lumber ? Jaeger was too smart to fall for that.

Renovate the current building, and while repairs and such are going on

    1) Use the church space on 7th Avenue
    2) Use Taylor Pavilion

#2, I suggest we start with getting rid of the loose change in the DPW. People riding around in township vehicles with nothing to do is getting really old.

Remember Doherty wanted to sell off the library property for a one time shot of revenue. After that went sour, Doherty moved on to the Marina and gave that away.

It seems like Mayor Mark has come down with the same pattern of thinking. Once we “swap” our millions $$$ valued main street property for a “new” town hall what taxpayer asset will future politicians give away? Deep down I believe this is all to have buildings named after them. Ego’s need to stroked.

    Maybe I’m wrong?
Can someone please name a time when trading or selling away taxpayer assets benefited the taxpayer long term?

Maybe Lake Como police force because Belmar taxpayers picked up the major costs, but I believe this was a short term gain and will correct itself in the next 5 years.

#9- We can always sub-divide the property around Silver Lake and sell it to Merkel or Depp to build houses on. The sale will more that erase our debt.
And their was never a short term gain in taking over the Policing of South Belmar, I mean Lake Como, they didn’t want to be associated with the Belmar name. The deal got you less services for more money, all in the name of running for County Ofices.

We heard about problems with the building roof, AC and mold … now, we’re hearing about ‘structural problems’ ?

I am not in favor of renovating nor replacing the muni building at the expense of taxpayers, nor letting the borough allow more residential units to be built to pay for it. The current debt must be paid off first. The muni building should just be put on the back burner until we can afford to address that issue.

The money is stolen every year from our budget, or in some years not budgeted at all. What should be done is a annual amount put a side to cover the costs of upkeep of the borough hall building. There is nothing wrong with this building except a lack of maintenance and up keep. So if we need to put some money into this building, sell some borough assets and bring it up to speed.( $300-$350,000 fix) There are plenty of assets that we could sell and would not be missed by the people who actually own them (Residents) Need some ideas, just ask
