“Patrol the neighborhood streets in sedans”

Let me get heretical right away. We should have one patrolman each shift walking a beat. Belmar is a small enough town to do this. Of course, he’d have a handheld radio to maintain communication with headquarters. Danny Moynihan told me he walked a beat here. That was a long time ago. The question is, are these young patrolmen physically, emotionally and intellectually up to such a thing?

I think all our police officers are too busy monitoring all the bars in Belmar to have a Night Out Program. Well, that’s what I would like to believe instead of they just don’t care.

Let’s be real. The only thing “Acting Chief” Houseman and his crew care about is their overtime. Dont believe me, check the payroll!

We’ll all likely get the chance to meet a Belmar officer at one of the many useless new stop signs that serve no purpose other than to boost review at the expense of locals wallets. Not to mention that those who live on one of these streets probably lost 20% of their expected brake life and an increase in pollution. The signs on 10th ave at the roundabouts are down right hazardous especially with the weeds growing 4 feet tall.

Tubby, I went to a meeting before the summer and inquired about the roundabout. I suggested if it was replanted correctly it could actually be attractive.I personally
would like to see it landscaped and look beautiful on our end of town, since it already exists!! I was told within days it would be
taken down and put back to a 4 way stop. It never happened. The islands on the north end are maintained and have irrigation. We could use plants that don’t need much water. Kevin Gahan knows all about plants and it could be pretty plus functional to slow traffic down.Yes people drive over it now because it looks stupid.

National Night Out sounds like a good idea and so does re-implementing the existing Community Policing Program to the Belmar community.

Vickie, we need unfettered Community Policing with no handcuffs from the Administration. All of the former non-political street captains that I’m aware of are totally in agreement. Jimmy VanEtten’s leadership style of the program was excellent and saw results in a CAN DO manner until, unfortunately the brakes were applied, in my opinion, when the hierarchy decided to divide and conquer our progress. Damned if you do and damned if you dont.

BIPARTISAN, I agree. I remember the wonderful relationships that were developed between all of us and I also remember the day the chief redesigned the areas. It was so mixed up no one knew which region they were in .It completely destroyed the progress that was made. I am hopeful in September we can re- organize to strengthen the program and restore simple communication between the community and the police.
#7 I realize Night Out was missed .I was talking about participating next time.

I like National Night Out, community policing and plantings in the 10th Ave circles. All are connected and can be advertised that way – community involvement from our leaders and citizens. I’d happily volunteer to plant and donate. Too late for the circles I bet:(

#6 I live on 10th and these roundabouts have been a constant source of confusion. Secondly, if the roundabouts cannot be maintained by the town, which it’s apparent they cannot, they should be removed. I was almost hit by a car coming around the R.A. because the vegetation was so high the driver could not see me on the other side. It does appear that a weed whacker has been taken to both on 10th but it still looks horrible… in my opinion, they should be removed.

#13 I understand the confusion, however for years until this past year 4 way stops signs were not an option . The roundabouts although unpopular were ones chiefs suggestion to slow traffic down. My suggestion because it will be costly to take them down is to plant low green bushes with flowers under them to beautify 10th avenue. They should and can be maintained as all the other planted spaces on the north end.I can sympathize with you almost getting hit by a car because they were too high and not maintained but the amount of car accidents on D street for decades has been a big issue . Slowing down traffic on 5th ,8th ,10th, 12th ,and 16th are all direct routes from rt.35 plus D street is a 2 way not a one way as other letter streets. I would gladly be part of the solution to design an appropriately landscaped circle instead of adding more blacktop to cover any green space left in the borough.

I was at the meeting when there was a big discussion about the round about. Mike Campbell stated it would take his crew a couple of hours to remove them. It seemed that they decided it was a done deal.

Hey PLease! I have decided to quit my job and follow my husband’s fleet of 2 trucks, instead of being productive in the community . Right now 1 truck is in our driveway and 1 is at our other house. Maybe we could work together following him since you’re main concern is him instead of Making Belmar Great Again! HAHA!!!

Hey Renner. Dont quit your job, things must be slow if both trucks are in your driveway(s). Making Belmar great sound good. But you whining and tattling on everybody and every little thing like you did before isnt cool. Did you ever hear the saying, those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Haha!

Hey Please, getting abused by the anonymous is part of putting myself out there. You hide behind PlEASE as if you have manners. What you don’t get is the neighborhood network from 30 years ago was composed of a group of people that wanted a better quality of life in town. Some were afraid to speak up so I did it for those who felt uncomfortable. I got a lot flack but at 28 I felt passionate about helping neighbors that wanted to remain silent for fear of retribution. I’ve been called names, cursed at ,sued etc.for standing up for what’s right for residents. It’s not Cool? How about Beer Pong in the front yard , Urinating in Public? Lighting the next door neighbors flag on fire? Rolling a dead pig head down the other neighbors driveway? Autos crashing on the corner of 12th and D every weekend? Drunks waking the block up at 2-4 am Tuesdays and Weekends? Having drunks steal your gas grill, car in your driveway and outdoor furniture is normal? We painted curbs throughout the boro, Studied traffic safety on Ocean avenue for bicycles, went to Ny to support residents on the north end to get rid of Montego Bay and Key Largo, initiated the winter festival with the boats, introduced community policing, and changed many ordinances to improve the Belmar Housing ordinances.
I wasn’t cool but we cleaned up a lot of crap,so that the new people would want to live here and the locals would be respected. Again what the hell have you ever done?
Renner Contractors aka Billy Renner is loved by most people. He has a good heart and has done endless favors for others. He even built that beautiful gazebo you look at every day{that survived SANDY].Billy loves to work and stays out of the public conversations,so dragging him into this is a first.
Do not confuse his personality with mine.I am completely happy doing good things for others and will always stand up for what I believe in. Voicing ones opinion is not a crime. Kenny Pringle mentioned to Dave that by Dave getting up to the microphone at town meetings made him a better Mayor because he heard different opinions from his own.
Katrina,Joan,Kathleen,Maria,Joy,Terry,Noreen,Peggy,Pat Korea,Pat Wann,Maureen,Rita and Rose are a few of the very strong women in our community. Together we have stood up for over 30 years and I am proud to know every one of them. We are all even strong enough to use our names instead of hiding. Come out,Come out whoever you are!PLEASE!
